Who did/will everyone vote for? A fun little "contest" for sure...I was upset Al purdy wasn't on the CBC's list...I'm sure many Hip fans here can attest to his strength and beauty as a writer...

I thought about Baldwin, Lafantaine, Trudeau and Douglas, but I voted for Terry Fox. Of course, I'm currently trying to get him on Canadian currency in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope which falls in the same year that the olympics will be held in his hometown: so I might be just a little biased! :lol:
I Just feel his contribution, inspiration and selfless act transend anything that anybody could do in the politcal arena... plus I think he can be universally appreciated, whereas politics is politics...
I even included the "Terry's Gift is Forever Green" line from IOD in my write-up.
I have to add that this "Greatest Canadian" campaign is fantastic, and is exactly what the CBC should be doing. As somebody whose spent a good deal of the past year arguing in favour of public broadcasting and against cultural imperialism, I'm gald to see this lil' contest getting so much recognition... No hurry up and give the Hip one of those prime time specials ya keep giving Celine and Shania!

So many of those names on the list I don't know anything about, it's fun checking out what they are about. A name that does come to mind is David Suzuki...Good to see my favourite folk singer (Stan Rogers) on the list.

No way. Don Cherry for sure belongs on this list. He shouldn't win but definetely belongs.

Don Cherry on that list ahead of Sir Isaac Brock and Tecumseh (without whom, it may fairly be argued, there would be no Canada)? Ahead of Arthur Currie? Romeo fucking Dallaire, a true Canadian hero? Stephen Lewis? Agnes McPhail? Marshall McLuhan? Margaret Atwood?
That's a complete travesty. Cherry is amusing and he knows hockey, but ultimately he's a nothing.
Incidentally, which Canadian musicians are notable for their absence? Frigging Avril frigging Lavigne is there..... :rambo:

Skippy, I can't argue with most of the people on your list except Margaret Atwood. Atwood has always been overrated. From her skewed views of being Canadian (Survival) to her bitter and knee jerk reactions to anyone who did not agree with her (Atwood vs Mathews). Don Cherry rolls Atwood up and smokes her as far as Canadians go.
