The Weakest Link - Silver Medallists - Round 3
#1

In a tight contest, we see The Last Recluse earn the most votes.

13 - The Last Recluse
14 - Highway Girl

Vote for the song that you feel is the weakest from the second place finishers in each poll. After 48 hours, we will remove the song with the most votes and move on to Round 4. In the event of a tie, both (or more) songs will be eliminated.

This round will end on Tuesday at 10:18am Eastern.

Happy voting!

I stared at the last round with the same thought. I didn't know what to do then, I don't know what to do now.

Maybe Vaccination Scar but Rob's pedal steel is so hard to vote against.

I got an easy Round Three, because Vaccination Scar survived the cut. The Drop Off would have been my vote this round otherwise. These songs are all fantastic, but isn't it a little early to be voting for Little Bones?

As with the bronze medallist poll, there is a clear demarcation line drawn between everything before 2000 and everything after; based on voting so far it looks like we are headed for another late 80's/1990's final four.

Well Grace,Too is the clear cut winner, no doubt about it,but my top 3 would consist of The Dark Canuck and Escape, and there's some great post 2000 songs on this list that I would take over their early material as well. I'm surprised The Drop Off is likely out in this round, it's fantastic. Furthermore, the bands output really slowed down post 2002. I blame Gord's solo material for that.

Ya sure? I'll never vote for Escape as the weakest of anything. Never!

Agreed. I like Scar, Atta, Possessed and Drop more than MMAW, Gift Shop, and maybe even Blow. If one of the new songs was going to take one of these polls, I would think this would be the round...but sentimentality is tough to compete with.

Tough list -- I love Gord's vocal effort in The Drop Off, there's almost moments of self-satisfaction in some of the "woows" for getting through some pretty word intense phrases.

Is it sentimentality? Or are the earlier songs just better? I would think most in this group could get past the attachments of "time and place" in an effort to be objective (or at least as much as one could be in a predominantly subjective exercise) when looking at these songs. These polls are confirming for me what I fought hard to deny for many years.

Well, yes, and I agreed with you on that previously...these polls have also forced me to admit I really do like the old stuff better. But I grew up on those albums...they were central at a time when I was discovering music. I listened to them over and over. It's naive to think I could separate that from my subconscious.

There are a number of different factors that are going to impact how you view the songs. I agree that it is likely impossible to remove sentimentality entirely from the equation. However, for me, the greater barrier to being objective is song fatigue. If I'm listening to UTH, I'll skip NOIS. Undeniably a great song, but I've heard it a 1000 times before. Same with ABAC. This is likely more of a factor in my subconscious then sentimentality, and if anything it biases me towards the newer material, although not enough to not vote for it!
