I'm a big fan of Ocean Next, it's a totally new sound for the Hip. It's in my top 3 songs on this album. Just wanted to say that as I've been surprised at the votes it has been racking up in the early rounds have surprised me. Carry on.

In Sarnia is terrible, one of the worst vocal performances The Hip have recorded, and just not a great song to begin with. A close 2nd to TAF as the worst song on the album; obviously I voted Machine for this round.

For me, Ocean Next and Machine are close to the top of my list for a 1-2 album closer punch in their entire catalog. Could be partly nostalgia given the circumstances but I just love those songs.

I get that people mainly focus on GD, but the instrumentation should keep In Sarnia alive for another round. There's so much going on musically...the best Hip songs are the ones where each instrument are almost playing a separate song...like jazz, but everything just comes together. I LOVE the way Johnny plays off GS's bass line.
As for GD's contribution, the first half is certainly better than the second (all the bi-CY-cling gets old), but thedirewolf74 and KWT working out that the Sarnia reference was most likely related to its pollution (in my pocket and in my eyes, in my blood) really elevated the lyrics for me. Can people really deny these two verses as the best on the album:

I can't overstate how much I love the "poker hand" line and how Gord sings it in such a way that we can feel his mild annoyance and picture the target of the line ignoring him. And quoting Bruce McCulloch (Kids in the Hall) is such typical subtle GD genius.
