One of my most prized possessions in high school was a VHS copy of the April 1990 Misty Moon show in Halifax, which aired on MuchMusic. This was my first exposure to the power of live Hip before ever seeing the band in person, as it was for many of my friends at the time (and possibly a few of you on this board). After seeing this show, I was hooked as a Hip fan. I believe it stands as the Hip's first televised performance.

The old Misty Moon is being torn down this week in Halifax. It hasn't been the Moon since 1995, when it was sold and converted to the Discovery Centre (a interactive science learning centre for kids). I was in downtown Halifax last night and as I was walking by it, concrete and rebar now fully exposed, I looked into to where the stage used to sit and in my head I could hear Downie say, "It's beautiful to be here in the Misty Moon this evening. Cabaret Show Room and Lounge. Paris of the Maritimes..."

Drove by it today - strange to see. When I got into bootlegs ('99) the Misty Moon show was one of the first I traded for - listened to it so much the tape broke

The Misty Moon performance was my first introduction to live Hip as well. That show was a revelation. I probably watched that thing at least 50 times, and the Hip quickly became my favorite band mainly because of that show (and my obsession with Up to Here). At the time I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. Even at that early stage of their career, they were a force of nature.
