Assembly of First Nations honors Gord Downie
#1

Just watched this live on CBC Newsworld. Jesus, that was emotional. For those who didn't see it, I'm sure CBC will have the video up shortly.

Gord Downie is now known as the "man who walks amongst the stars"

Impressive honor -- I watched the ceremony but will have to find the part where Gord spoke. I hope there's a lot more time for achievements, but he has already created a legacy that few can rival. I have an overwhelming sadness every time I see a clip of him -- he looks like he is carrying a heavier weight every time I see him. I imagine these Secret Path shows are very emotionally difficult.

No problem. Fully and completely deserving of this honor.

That was moving and terrifying. We are seeing the yolk of a person right now. The stuff inside of him. We are all in the same boat as Gord - we are all going to die. He only knows it more certainly than we do; been forced to confront it more immediately than we have to. We should all be becoming the stuff that's inside us like he is doing right now. That's what terrifying about this.
