That's pretty cool :thumb: If nothing else it certainly putz into perspective how far away shit is from us Confusedhock: and also how close we are to thingz Confusedcratch: Did that make sense? I wonder how Space travellers deal with speedz that exceede light speed? Worm holez have got to be the way they get from one end of the country to the next, or they're very bodies have become accustomed to super-sonic flight over the eons,(thats prawly the understatement of the year when referring to the speedz they attain). but I think our eons are only mere blinks of the eyeball to them,to go 1 step further,time is totally irrelevant and does not exist at all,no clockz on their wallz. How many of you believe we are decendantz of the starz?

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought,compromised,detoured,lured away,turned back,diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice,hesitate in the presence of adversity,negotiate at the table of the enemy,ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

There's no question that we are descendants of the stars, quite literally. Every atom that makes up your body was forged in the oven of some dying star trillions of miles away and billions of years ago. Pretty freakin' awesome actually.

Excellent point!

And in case someone has a religious rebuttal, (and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with religion), but if one were to say that we are descendants of God and that proved true, then it would still cause this to be true because the universe is ALL that is. It is neverending and consists of everything! and if God is real then he/she/it/they/me is ALL that is as well and justly part of the universe making us descendants of the stars.

yep. I DEFINATELY have too much time on my hands!

Hahaha...you think you feel small now, well check this out:

This is one of the most distant images obtained from Hubble:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/hubble_asc_abell_030107.html">http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/h ... 30107.html</a><!-- m -->
(click on the thumbnail image in the right-hand column for a larger, more detailed image).

Astronomers estimate that some of the galaxies in this picture may be 13 BILLION light-years away. The picture shows these galaxies as they looked 13 billion years ago, since the light that creates the image has been travelling though space for the last 13 billion years and is just reaching us now. We'll never know what they look like now (well, if we're still here in 13 billion years, we'll be able to see what they look like now!)

For reference, there are approximately 6 TRILLION miles in a single light-year. Light travels at 186,000 miles per second, and at that speed it travels 6 trillion miles in one year.

Which means the distance to these far-off galaxies is [6 trillion TIMES 13 billion] miles! Confusedhock: If you wrote this distance out in the conventional fashion it would look like this:

78,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles!

By way of comparison, the closest star to us (other than our own of course) is Alpha Centauri, which is only 4 light years away. But even this star is so far away that if we were to travel to Alpha Centauri at a speed of 20,000 miles an hour, it would still take us over 100,000 years to arrive. And that's the closest one! :lol:

This stuff is cool... 8)
