I know there has been discussion and speculation about special guests on the tour, but does anyone believe there could be a 'Last Waltz-esque' type of performance in Kingston. While I would be very content with the format we've seen so far this tour, I have been starting to wonder what might occur.

In a Macleans interview, Jim Cuddy said "But I think we’re doing—actually, I’m not sure what we’re doing....Whoa! No, I can’t say. It won’t be a big secret soon". It wasn't clear what he was hinting at. Perhaps a tribute album, I think I saw speculated here.

But then at the show tonight, on a periscope feed, someone was sitting behind some members of Blue Rodeo, and it appeared that someone asked Colin Cripps about August 20th, and he gestured back with a 'shhhhh' motion.

Any chance they will be joined on stage by others during the Kingston show?

I really think its possible that Aykroyd introduces the band in Kingston. But, other than that I really don't expect a bunch of musical guests. But, I hope I'm wrong!! Blue Rodeo will definitely NOT be present in Kingston they have a show that night @ Molson Ampitheatre (Toronto).


My wildest dreams. It would be cool to have heavy hitters like the Trailer Park Boys, Don Cherry, Dallas Green, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, etc,etc show up...but I doubt it.

Same here. I am guessing any musician knows this is The Hip's night and would never consider invading the stage with them.

That being said, I posted an earlier thread that I won't be surprised if there is a huge benefit concert in the very near future, ala Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary, where all musicians play Hip songs, all proceeds going to Sunnybrook. Maybe The Hip would perform a couple songs at the end, then everyone out on stage for the finale?

Always said I would love to hear what Neil could do with NOIS. Or what about Rush with Fire In The Hole??

I really think this could happen. Not sure if you have heard/seen on youtube but Raine Maida and IME did a cover of Grace Too. Raine has always said he is a huge fan of the band so I could see him being involved too.

Just throwing it out there... With the short break that happens 8 songs into the set, perhaps Blue Rodeo will be joining the simulcast from Toronto to fill that gap- with their own tribute to the Hip. Could be an opportunity to inject a few other musicians into the night without having a revolving door of musicians joining the Hip on stage in Kingston.

I too hope that the 'final' show is Hip-only. And the idea of a big surprise circus of guest-acts does seem contrary to the Hip's modus operandi over their career.

But if Cuddy has in mind something different - say, a big tribute concert, or a tribute album - then that'd be great.
