What Blue
#1

Getting a huge Mac Demarco vibe to start this song.

Any thoughts on what "what blue" actually means (the phrase, not the whole song)?

My take is 'what blue' refers to the eyes of the subject of the song and represents the entirety of their relationship

It's used in the way that after watching Wayne Gretzky play, you might exclaim "what talent!"

When the singer looks into the eyes of the subject, he sees both the pain of the relationship, but a reminder of the beauty of it all.

In your eyes, (i'm reminded of) the useless nights and all the dreary places, but what (a beautiful shade of) blue

In your eyes, all of our dark doors, our disenchanted paths, but what blue

When I think I'm clear, I think I'm doing fine, completely absorbed in what blue

eyes are the window to the soul, afterall...

Geez I swung and missed on that. I was trying to figure out "which" blue, rather than "my what" blue.

*EDIT* What Blue, In Sarnia and Here, in the dark might be one of my fav 3-song-run of all time. such cool songs.

I'm so happy they penned an optimistic love song.

I was just thinking how Gord's lyrics are still unmatched ( with other artists) and this song really highlights that. Sttaight forward love songs are tricky to write without sounding tacky but Gord managed to write a total stunner.

I've got a new fav from the album each week and this might be it.

This is a gorgeous, heartfelt, perfectly crafted song. My favorite from the new album right away, though Machine kicks some serious ass.

totally agree, this is by far my favorite song on the album and making its way up all time fave list as well.

Lyrically MMP is one of Gord's best imo.

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

"What drove and drives you drove and drives me too" -- that is gold.
