With the Winter Classic tomorrow, I feel it's a good time to start a thread about our favourite league!
I may be being a little sly starting this as my Kitties are 1st in the Atlantic! (I don't think I've ever been able to say that).
There is still lots of puck to go though, and our California road trip in November where we went 0-3 makes me nervous.
How's your team doing?

I follow the Leafs and Oilers, since I grew up in Niagara and now live in Edmonton. Both meh. Leafs are actually better than I expected. They stay in most games. So Babcock is at least worth some of what they're paying him. Edmonton remains a team of good young forwards (especially Taylor Hall, who is amazing so far this season), laughable defence, and minor-league calibre goaltending. So, you know, I want baseball season to get here quickly.

My Flames had their worst start in franchise history and were dead last in the NHL after the first 15 games. Pretty disappointing after the amazing season they had last year. Thankfully they managed to right the ship before Christmas with an 8 game winning streak and climbed back into the playoff picture. However they've since come back down to earth, losing their last 2 games and going 6-4 in their last 10. Not good enough. Rebuilds are a tough slog, and they've still got a ways to go before they're considered a contender. For now I'm just enjoying the ride while watching our young players develop. Johnny Gaudreau has been amazing to watch this season. The kid is such a dynamic and exciting player, and he makes something happen every time he touches the puck. We still need more size and grit in order to compete with the big teams in the West like LA and St. Louis. And better goaltending would help.

I'm actually on my way to the CTC tonight to see the Panthers in person for the first time.
I haven't been this excited for a hockey game since game 6 of the 2001 Calder Cup Finals when the Saint John Flames beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Hope I'm not jinxing the win streak by going...

It's been an up & down season so far for the Rangers. They had such a phenomenal start, sitting at 16-3-2 at the 1/4 mark. The last 2 months they've been very inconsistent though, and actually haven't been able to put together back-to-back wins. The last time the Rangers won 2 in a row was November 21st/23rd. Hoping they can get things back on track soon.
I was in NYC for New Years Eve, and took in the Rangers 6-2 win over the Dallas Stars on the 5th. It was the first time I saw them win in person, losing every previous game I had been to! Too bad they couldn't put in an effort like that on a nightly basis, they played great.

No we didn't see them, thought about getting tix to one of the shows. We had enough other stuff going on while we were there, so didn't bother.

A few months later...
and the Kitties are 1st in the Atlantic with a handful of games remaining. I think they have a great shot at taking 1st outright if you look at the remaining schedule (2x Leafs, 2 Habs, Sens, Devils, Canes). The most meaningful 'Battle of Florida' ever was Saturday night (for 1st in the division), and Tampa only showed up to play for twenty minutes.
What's going on with your teams?

Bonner your cats finally did what I hoped they would and updated their jerseys. Looks good: http://panthers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=884633
