Hip-related "announcement" coming soon from unlikely place
#1

Listening to Prime Time Sports w/ Bob McCown this evening. Show always comes back from commerical breaks with snippets of songs as "bumper music" that fades out as Bob comes back on the air.

Kicked off the 5pm hour with a "Courage" bumper fading out, followed by this by McCown:

"CanCon... The Hip... may have an announcement to make about The Hip at some point, not today though... stay tuned for further details!" and that was it, no further hint or mention.

Would think it would obviously be some sports-themed tie-in but really, that's about as vague of an announcement tease as there could possibly be

direct link to the .mp3 of the 5pm hour (the short tease kicks off the very start):

It's gotta be sports related if McCown is talking about it. Perhaps the Hip are heading over to Sochi to play a show for the Canadian athletes? I remember they did that in 2002 in Salt Lake, so I wouldn't put it past them.

I'd be surprised if they were involved...
Why the heck would they do nothing for the Vancouver Olympics, but decide to do something for the even-more corrupt Russian Olympics...

I think they might be remastering Fully Completely (maybe for a vinyl release?). Check out this tweet from Toronto producer/guitar god Ian Blurton: https://twitter.com/ianblurton/status/43...5372363776

Well if they only do one, I would hope its FC... we've only been hoping for that here on Hipbase for the last decade!

Ian Blurton is known for his raw, edgy production. So if this rumor is true, then this is excellent news. If anybody can bring out the rawness of the original FC tracks, he's definitely the guy to do it. Could this potentially be the start of a full scale reissue of the Hip's classic albums? I'll believe it when I see it. The reissue thing is fine, but personally I'd rather see the release of a b-sides album and some more live material from the archives. These guys are sitting on a gold mine of unreleased music. Why they continue to let it sit in some damn vault collecting dust is absolutely baffling to me. If it's production costs they're worried about, they wouldn't even have to release them on CDs. They could simply post the stuff on their website as digital downloads, and then sit back and watch the money roll in. It's idiotic to me that their management hasn't taken advantage of the Internet the way other bands have. Bunch o' dumbasses.

Are they? I've only ever heard a handful of b-sides and never felt any of them were worthy of making the album they were recorded for. Skeleton Park and Hush were pretty forgettable. Are there others beyond what's listed here:http://www.hipmuseum.com/unreleased.html?

I was talking more about the live stuff. They've been recording all of their shows since 1995. And I'm betting there are plenty of b-sides worth hearing as well. I remember an interview with Paul once where he mentioned they had recorded around 30 songs for the Music@Work album. I'd love to hear some of that stuff.
