The 2013 Conference on the Environment is slated to kick off in Buffalo, New York on Thursday, October 3rd at the Adam's Mark Hotel when Gord Downie--front man for the band, The Tragically Hip--performs a remarkable Evening of Music & Conversation. Tickets are available to the public for just $25. The show begins at 7:30 PM; doors open at 6:00 PM.

Although Gord Downie is best known for his music, over the years he has become a strong advocate for protecting the Great Lakes and for people's water rights. As a member of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, much of Gord's environmental activism has been focused on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario. However, the health of the Great Lakes has no political boundaries, nor does our right to protect the largest source of fresh water on the planet.

The music of Gord Downie will be the highlight of the 2013 Conference on the Environment. Gord's passion for the environment, translated into eclectic performance, will inspire the audience to examine their actions from a more ecological perspective as he explores what he considers "one of the great loves of our lives"--the environment.

Doors for this exciting event open at 6:00 PM when the Western New York Environmental Alliance will showcase the work of environmental organizations from across the region. The show begins at 7:30 PM.

An Evening of Music & Conversation with Gord Downie is sponsored by the New York State Association of Conservation Commissions (NYSACC), New York State Association of Environmental Management Councils (NYSAEMC), the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, and the Niagara Region Integrated Community Planning Department, and was made possible through the generous contributions of Ecology and Environment, Inc., The Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo, and National Grid.

The 2013 Conference on the Environment is a program of NYSACC and NYSAEMC and has been brought to Buffalo thanks to a partnership with the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning and the Niagara Region Integrated Community Planning Department. The conference will take place October 3-5, 2013 at the Adam's Mark Hotel in downtown Buffalo and is dedicated to helping the public and those in the environmental and allied fields respond to environmental opportunities and challenges relevant to communities across the United States and Canada. Registration is just $95 and includes all conference sessions, select meals, and a ticket to An Evening of Music & Conversation with Gord Downie. For complete conference details, please visit our website at coe2013.org.

What a great evening. Short but fantastic!!
Cool room , clear sound, and Gord was so comfortable in that setting, and was right on.
He spoke for about 5 minutes between each song about the problems the lakes are
facing , and what we can do to help. He told stories and read quotes , and it was really
interesting , he is such a great story teller. I would have been happy just listening to him speak.
He was joined on stage by another musician (Josh) who played bass, guitar, piano, on various songs and backing vocals
on Morning Moon. I have seen The Hip over 30 times , and Gord Downie with the Country of Miracles 3 times, but never
Downie like this. What a treat.
I have heard Bobcaygeon so many times , but never like this. Gord played guitar, and Josh played piano.
It was also arranged differently. Best version I have heard, and It was awesome to hear it done that way. Vancouver Divorce was great,
they were all great. Take away the huge outdoor shows where Gord seems to get distracted, and tries to sing over all the fans singing along with him, and Boy he can still sing. His vocals were great tonight. Was great to be reassured tonight that he is just fine, and
in good spirits , and able to sing in key. Was a little worried on this last tour , but never lost faith.
Great job tonight Gord!!!!

No worries about his voice, it truly was a very good show. Bob C keyboard guitar was cool. I hope that gord will release his speech of the show sometime online. I asked Billy for the copy and was politely and rightly so shot down.

I was sitting in the back row of the center section right near the soundboard and someone asked if there was recording capabilities (audio and video). Not sure if it was someone associated with the conference, Gord or a random person. Never heard the answer so there is a glimmer of hope of release.

It sounded haunting with the keyboard. The keyboard sound reminded me of the final tune on one of Gord's solo albums - the one where he quietly sang a song on a train over his daughters piano playing.

The entire show was recorded.

really glad I caught this show..it was truly awesome

The format worked perfectly since this topic is so close to the man's heart...

Thought I noticed a couple times Gord maybe thinking the crowd was a bit quiet ??

I think the quiet was more respect for the subject matter

Really....really enjoyed this gig

Would love to get a copy of this , if it becomes available

I really liked the show. Everything flowed well between song and the lake discussions. If you werent aware of some of the issues Gord went through many without shoving them down your throat.
This was a first hearing Hip songs without the band. Good humor to open up when Gord asked the crowd "Whats new? And someone quipped " its not raining." Funny moment.

There were like ten people there - how the hell did I not see either one of you?
I brought my 7 year old to his first "Hip" show. He has attended several other shows with me but never a Hip show.

Were you sitting towards the back of the left hand (facing the stage) section? We saw a boy who looked 8ish and thought how cool that was that he was brought.

With me being new to the forums we should have had a quick meet up of all attending members to introduce ourselve/catch up
