Thanks Jen Yes once again we have similar tastes Neil , actually if I had thought this through better 45 Years would replace Country Feedback . The version of 45 Years off of Home in Halifax really shows how amazing Stan Rogers was . I'm looking forward to checking out the other songs people will have posted that I haven't heard before . :thumb:

It's funny you should mention Home in Halifax...it came up in my computer playlist and made me think of this thread so I came by again. I'm listening to it now...what an amazing voice. If for one day in my life I could sing like that I'd be happy!!

PS I don't know if you have heard her stuff, but seeing as we have such remarkably mutual musical interests, I really highly recommend you check out Kate Fenner...you may or may not like her songs, but you have to admit that VOICE is so timeless. I have never been able to really get anyone else interested in her, but I'm sure you can appreciate her!! I recommend "My Love Is Not Waiting" (it's downloadable from the site!)

Yeah Stan is awesome, I wish I could have seen him before he passed away ...Have you heard his brother Neil ? Check out Garnet , songs like Roman Coin , Golden Fields and Night Drive . The latter two were written about Stan . I only know Kate Fenner by name , i'll definitely check out those songs , thanks for the tip . :thumb:

Courage... (what's your name btw? Seems like I respond to lots of your posts)...I haven't actually heard any of Garnet's stuff other than a couple of songs he did at one of Stan's memorial concerts. I actually met him somewere too, I think it might have been at an ECMA function...and I instantly thought of the Friendly Giant: "Look up...waaaay up!" Good lord that guy is massive. I will definitely check him out on your recommendation!

Have you ever heard of Dan McKinnon? He's this guy who plays at the Sunday market here in Halifax. Great guy, he has a bunch of CD's, tours Canada and Western Europe constantly. He sounds EXACTLY like Stan. I swear to god, when I heard that voice in market square, I thought it was Stan himself risen from the dead!! He does do lots of Stan's songs, but has so many of his own. A great "unknown" Canadian folkie. If you ever hear his name mentioned in the Clagary pub scene, go see him...you may just leave feeling like you finally saw Stan.

Butting into the conversation here, but you definitely should check out Garnet. Mark (Courage) introduced me to him, I bought his All That Is cd and I have been hooked ever since. :thumb:

Oh and another thing, I saw you had Fields of Gold in your list. You should check out a version by Eva Cassidy, its beautiful.

In naming Gordon Downie songs, we all seem to have chosen Chancellor, but how could I forget about my very favourite GD solo song of all time - Lofty Pines. What a stunningly beautiful, and incredibly different, song. I put it on repeat when I go to bed some nights.

After I was introduced to Garnet's music I ordered All That Is on an impulse. Its his most recent album; a compilation of some of his earlier work and a great CD in my opinion. Mark has his 1996 Night Drive album which also has some great tunes. I'll let him fill you in about that.
These are the only 2 CDs I'm familiar with (as of yet).
