If my instincts pan out, I'm pretty certain that this 'first' U.S. run is just that; a 'first' U.S. run, set up of course for us fans but also for the band to have some time to gel, work out any kinks and familiarize themselves with playing the new material live, feel the songs out, see if any adjustments are needed and so on.
Seeing as they haven't toured, really toured that is, since 2009, I'm quite confident that they'll be on the road for most of next year as well, starting with an indepth Canadian tour, then in either order, a second U.S. tour and a small European run. The second U.S. tour would cover many of the cities not covered in the fall, as well as some of those venues that will be played in the Fall. I'm also suspecting that the second leg of the U.S. tour will have the Hip play some popular spots 2 nights in a row, and in a few rare instances, even 3 nights in a row.
I'm thinking back to their tour for World Container where they started with what they dubbed some warm-up gigs in Canada (in fall/winter 2006) followed by a bigger Canadian tour, two U.S. legs, and a short succinct European run. I have the impression based on comments from Baker that the Hip are ready to embark on a long strenuous tour seeing as its been 3 years since the last album and such.
