what does the lyric mean to you?
Reminds me of the time my friend was kicking H,
he was shaking that entire night, however whenever he would go
to inject himself his hands would be steady
anyone have similar stories?

Tom Thompson is saying this line (speaking softly in accordance of the growing of the dim). He was a Canadian painter. Thompson actually drowned while Canoeing back in the 1800's. I always assumed that Gord is saying that he saw his ghost paddling past. He had been on the river for like 100 years which would explain the shaking. ...But his hands were steady because he's one of the most famous Canadian Artists.

Back in the day I atended the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. Evergreen is not a typical school as a quick check of the Wikipedia entry will explain. The students had an aversion to team sports so the only official sport team was the Frisbee Golf team and the unofficial men's and women's Rugby teams. I joined the men's Rugby team and had taken up residency at the legendary "Rugby House". Olympia has an array of run down group houses ( the Witch House, The Glass House, The Ranch etc.) that serve as stopovers for touring Rock/Punk bands, hippies, punks, freaks, geeks, musicians and artists. The Rugby House was an old whore house complete with hidden rooms and secret passages. It was the closest thing to a Frat house a town like Olympia could tolerate . Picture "Animal House" with four foot bongs and ponytails. After a home match we would host the visiting team for a "Drink Up". Basically we would book a band, supply giant pots of spaghetti and copious amounts of weed and booze. People would get loaded, sing traditional drinking songs and nurse our wounds. Needles to say our parties became legendary and began to attract all kinds of local people.
It was at one of these parties that my "hand is steady" moment occurred. The house was throwing a party and the women's Rugby team were in attendance in all their glory. I'm not sure about other women's teams but Evergreen women's side was 99% lesbian. I'm not talken lipstick lesbians, these were the original Riot Grrrls. Tough don't begin to describe them. So the party was in full swing. The beer was flowing and everyone was having a good old time. Everyone, that is, except some old timer who had wandered in. This guy was an old dude around 60. He had the scraggly beard and unkept appearance of a washed up fisherman. He was not a small dude. You could tell he was a tough guy in his day but now he was a half crazed alcoholic with spiderweb tattoos on his arm and that crazy look in his eyes. The majority of the kids just ignored him and went about their business. The old dude sat on the sofa drinking his cup of cheep keg beer and mumbling to himself. We noticed him but just figured he was a harmless old drunk. He had that sad symptom of a prolonged alcoholic, the shakes. His hands would shake uncontrollably as he reached for his drink and then bam! Steady as a rock as he lifted the drink to his mouth only to return to the shakes as he lowered his arm. So the night was going well until the old drunk took to shooting his mouth off at one of the Ladies. I'm not sure what started it but by time I was aware of the situation a full blown fight was erupting. The old drunk was standing toe to toe with one of the toughest chicks on the women's Rugby team. He was cursing and screaming at her when he made one of the worst decisions I've ever seen a man make.
Drunk: " F'U ya dy** "
Rugby Chick: " F'U , get the F outa here. Time for you to go!"
Drunk: " Suck my ...."
Before he could finish she cranked her fist back and punched the dude square in the face and he dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes. She was on top of him in a flash and proceeded to pound him in the face until three of our biggest guys pulled her off. To our amazement the old drunk popped up like a jack in the box and continued to spew insults. The guys had to hold her back as my buddy and I escorted him out of the house. The craziest part is the old timer didn't even seem to be fazed by the whooping he just took even though his face looked like someone took a baseball bat to an rotten pumpkin.

The Hip Museum has it all.
But I am sure it is a line about hockey. Aren't all their lines about hockey?

Cool Story Phil :thumb: I drove thru Olympia a few back, It looked like a town with alot of great stories....
I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

Yeah, it's a great town with a great school. I highly recommend that any youngbloods looking for a solid education check out Evergreen. It's hard to get into these days but IMO its a better education than a traditional University. They don't give grades and students design their own programs.

They've been miscasted as hockey songs... they're more Friday night public skate songs.
