Went to the show @ the Town Ballroom last night. Great Show, they did the entire shakespeare my butt album. The Venue was interesting, small and bowl shaped, good sound.

I just heard they were playing Massey Hall sometime in May. Calling shenanigans on what I thought was their final reunion tour in December at Lee's.

They seem to pulling a "Cher" more frequently. I was at the "last show together" at Club Infinity in Buffalo way back in 2009. I think Ron Hawkins is the only one doing well after the breakup of the band.

I love the Low, but this endless on again/off again reunion tour is starting to become a joke. Either put out a new record, or put the final nail in the coffin and call it quits already. I've really enjoyed Ron's solo material over the last few years and I'm hoping he's got more to come.

To be honest, I bet the band makes more money touring in the Toronto/Buffalo area than they would putting together an album. I'm not quite up on my Low history but I would hazard a guess that their last successful cross-Canada tour happened after Shakespeare My Butt was released.

Likely not many bands make any money on an album these days. I think in the Low's case, any lack of success in the early days was really due to the band's own self-destructive nature or business choices. They turned down a lot of opening slots with bigger bands, and stuck to the clubs or bigger halls as their own headliner. They fought with their record label, and they fought with themselves. They really only got started touring their second album when they imploded.

A few different lifestyle and business choices, and they could have been a very successful band, but I'm not sure that was their goal. I really like Ron's recent work, I hope he keeps moving in that direction.

he's said that the new record will continue on the same path, but will have a bit more of a rockin' feel due to many songs being composed with a full band in mind (the "do-good assassins") in mind, unlike his previous few efforts which were largely solo affairs.

As an aside from the recent shows where the whole album was played and as a heads up to fellow Low fans/record collectors that haven't heard; Shakespeare My Butt has finally been released on 2LP vinyl. Maplemusic has it for $24.

they're also doing an acoustic show at yonge-dundas square this saturday (July 16), as part of the Live Green Toronto Festival
