I have a Neil Young DVD that I want to make a CD of. It's a concert that isn't available on audio CD. I downloaded a program that rips DVDs into AVI files (9-use trial version, unfortunately it's all I could find). I also downloaded "Advanced AVI Splitter" (another trial thing) which says it extracts audio. I extracted the audio from the AVI, but all I can get is streamed audio. The WAV file is much too small to be the audio from the entire hour-and-45-minute concert, and sure enough, it won't burn to CD.
So how do I do it? What programs are there out there to extract audio? Surely in this community somebody must have tried to make an audio CD out of a live DVD...please help if you can!!

Thanks to that page, I was able to rip the audio. I now have a one-hour-and-44-minute WAV file (which, for space's sake, I converted into an MP3). I need just ONE more bit of help: what program should I use to split the file (in either MP3 or WAV format) into smaller pieces? Ideally, I would like to break it up into individual tracks, but I would appreciate just being able to split it in half to burn to 2 CD's.
Any more hints to help with the new problem??

I use Quicktime Pro for Mac, and sometimes Sound Studio.
Not sure about the PC equivalent!

CD Wave is a great program for splitting tracks.
Just choose your splits and save, the program does the rest!
BTW, TMPGEnc will rip audio for you too. As a last resort, I would hook up my stand-alone DVD player to my sound card via RCA cables and rip the audio using SoundForge 6.

Thanks for the help guys...I have completely given up on the stuff from dvdrhelp.com. It's insanely complicated. I have downloaded at least 6 things, rebooted three times, gotten programs that access files on my comp which I cannot (didn't even know that was possible) and I have given up. I ripped the audio using my 5-day only trial software and since I am apparently incapable of sorting through all the things you need for Smart Ripper, I guess when my 5 days is up I'll be unable to do it again. I seriously cannot figure out how somebody made it this complicated. Smart Ripper 2.41, the "best" ripper according to the help site, is buried down in my local settings folder and I canot get into it by going through C: > documents and settings > so on and so forth. But according to Win Ace Arhciver, ANOTHER of the friggin things I had to download, that's where it is. This is too much for me!! It's driving me insane!! I give up.
Now I'm going to try TLB's programs...wish me luck!!

OK now something else has gone wrong. I have all this shit on my comp that I downloaded in my failed attempts to get somewhere, like Win Ace Archiver. My comp, or the programs, are REFUSING to let me delete them. They're saying "uninstallation data not found". Bullshit!! This is my computer and if I want em off I should be able to kick em off!! Grrrrr...

i have a phillips cd recorded plus the burner in my computer so i can hook up a dvd or ps2 and connect cables to the burner to burn stuff like that i you want to send it to me i will get the audio for you i just have to watch it and track it that way

Thanks Ron, but I got it done myself. I don't actually have a DVD player, just s DVD-ROM player on the computer....which is mostly why I wanted to burn the audio, since I loaded my comp down with programs and it's slooow when I play a DVD.
Thanks anyway...I'm listening to the CD right now. So happy!! :thumb: Once the 5-day trial for the thing I ripped the audio with (the only program I could find that ripped non-streaming, proper WAV audio) I don't know what I'll do. I wish I was smart enough to understand all the crap on doom9!!
