I know I may be getting way ahead of myself here, but I think about it all the time. I know a few of you Hip Basers are crazy good at getting hunches and rumours of inside info. When do you think the Hip will be returning to studio/have another album out by? Do you think they'll have another 3 year gap?
Apparently Gord Downie said in an interview on Virgin Radio in Ottawa that they would be going into the studio next year, so perhaps a later 2011 or early 2012 release date would be expected.

Oh man I hope it won't take too long lol.
This sounds egregiously sad, but life so far has in many ways been divided by the soundtrack on my life; hip albums. Somehow, each new album has ushered in new growing, new perspectives, new situations. Will be weird not to hear from them again for a while. :\ I suppose this is what is left for the rest of their career.

Hopefully taking a little extra time will get their creativity goin again. Not that I didn't like the last couple of albums, but aside from a few gems it's mostly forgettable for me. I'd like to see Chris Walla get a shot at molding some Hip stuff.
I enjoyed the last two albums, and I dig the mellow/acoustic-oriented material on WATS. But I'd love for the next Hip album to be a lean, mean, rock n' roll record.

Have been waiting for that for a few years!! (although the other albums were interesting)
I like everything the Hip do. If we are going to wait a long time for new material it would be nice to see some B sides get released. Id imagine that somewhere in the vault are some seriously killer tracks we've yet to good recordings of and or even ever heard.

I've always wondered about how much material they must have locked up in the vaults that we've never heard before. After 12 studio albums, I'm betting there are dozens and dozens of tasty leftovers that were left on the cutting room floor. Probably enough to cobble together at least 2 or 3 CDs worth of goodies. I remember an interview with Paul way back when Music@Work was released where he mentioned that they had recorded something like 28 songs for that record and that they had to whittle it down to 14 for the finished album. My mouth waters at the thought of all that unreleased tape just sitting there collecting dust. That stuff needs to be set free, dammit! A nice clear studio version of "Montreal" would totally make my decade.
