was that meant to be sarcastic?
Um, sarcastic?
No.
I just actually happened to run across a copy of A Beautiful Thing the other day - that I happened to have online.
I saw you post about it - so I decided to offer a live version to everyone.

Which I appreciate. Thank you...
As someone who uses sarcasm on a daily basis, I'm unsure how that would be considered as such. Personally I thought it was just a nice gesture.
We have moments of that on here Remi.. Enjoy them, we're like a family here (including the falling outs  )

I love this tune despite having little clue as to what it's actually about. It's actually got a very personal connection as well, since I got engaged in niagara falls shortly after this album came out, so this song always reminds me of that special time.

But that's always been something I love about fords lyrics is that they can mean different things to different people. Very few hip songs are easily and universally deciphered for common meanings.

Great verses, clearly having to do with a friend's or acquaintance's imminent demise.
I always thought the chorus kinda sucked. It adds nothing to the lyric and suffers from the embarassing phallic ricochet, not to mention the oversinging that has charactertized some of Downie's later work with the Hiop (in start contrast to his wonderfully relaxed solo stuff).
Half a song is better than none, I suppose. Purge the chorus and just play the two verses with some cool instrumental work, you've got a really solid track.
