Where Are They Now?
#1

Anyone have any idea what each of the boys are up to at the moment? Solo projects? Long vacation?

Don't know about the rest of the band, but Gord has that solo album coming out in May and a tour to follow (hopefully with the Sadies as a backing band, but that is far from confirmed).

I'm pretty sure The Hip are taking a break for a while. We're just going to have to be patient. As mentioned above, there's a new Gord Downie solo album coming out on May 11th with a tour to follow. So at least we have that.

Charlottetown Civic Centre - 2007-09-15 - Charlottetown, PEI
The best night of my life.
Goddam I wish our video recording of that show didn't get erased and/or misplaced.
Front and Centre. Best Hip show I saw on the World Container tour.

How many showed up at the Civic Centre in Charlottetown a few years back? Around 1000, I think. Big support all right. :what I don't understand what you really mean when talking about how it should be a bigger deal for them, honestly. How many times do you think they should play the Maritimes? They played PEI three years in a friggin row from 2006 to 2008 recently. You think they should play five shows a year in the Maritimes? It might just be me, but I think they've played the Maritimes more than enough in recent years. They would have played Halifax last year if not for a family illness or whatever the problem was with one of the band members. I'm not trying to start a fight or anything here, by the way. I just respectfully disagree with your assertion that they don't play the east coast of Canada enough. What other bands play here? How many times have other notable acts like Matt Good, Sloan (who are from Halifax), OLP, etc.. played the Maritimes in recent years?

Gord Sinclair said they'd definitely be taking a break when I chatted to him after the Manchester show - I was asking him about going back to his 'other life' for a while. I think he said it would be "6 months or so" before they met up to do some being the Hip again. I would have thought they'd take a while longer out. They certainly deserve it as they work pretty hard as the band.

I agree with everything you've said.
Cept all these three acts have had shows in the Maritimes in late 09/early 10... and ive seen Matt Good twice in recent years, and did not catch him in support of Vancouver.

Just saying that it is dissapointing that they have 5 shows in Toronto and cannot change one of those for the east coast. We are a part of Canada just like everyone else. Im glad they have been playing in the East Coast alot lately, but with the release of a new album, I think it is correct to assume that they would want to share that music with as many fans as possible. Why not start with the whole of Canada?...OLP has play at least 3 times in the last 4 years, and Sloan has done quite the same...Matthew Good was in Fredericton not too long ago. I would certainly hope they consider the Maritimes important.

Some of those acts are more hurtin for an audience or money than the hip i imagine, money talks man, they haven't been to Sudbury in 4 years now either, but that's the way she goes, sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't.
