I just found out that Jim Carrol died last Friday of a heart attack. For those not in the know, he is the guy who wrote the book "Basketball Diaries" which was made into a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio in the mid 90's, as well as a fantastic poet and punk rocker. I first heard Jim Carrol as a 13 year old kid watching a very cheesy movie called "Tuff Turf", which starred a young James Spader and Robert Downey Jr. The Jim Carrol band was in the movie briefly and played a few songs which instantly became cemented in my head...People Who Died and It's Too Late. I then went on the hunt for anything Jim Carrol related and bought the album Catholic Boy which I've loved ever since.

He was a fascinating character. Sadly, when I heard of his passing I started singing 'People Who Died' and it's been in my head pretty much ever since.
