does anyone here convert the flac audio files from the torrents to mp3?
if you do, how do you do it?
I use Audacity, but it takes me FOREVER!! it took me so long to convert Toronto 4/24 and Kitchener 4/27 that I haven't done the other ones yet! :nooooo :nooooo :nooooo :nooooo

put them on my iPod. iTunes won't let me upload flac files

I find older software to be less complicated. I use a program called "Foobar 2000" it works really well and is simple to use. This program can be downloaded from almost anywhere on the net.

People around here usually tell me to use flac frontend, but I have so many problems running it on Vista that I don't bother and now I use Mediamonkey.

Flac Frontend is the way to go.
Decode them to wav and then have iTunes do what they want with them.

From FLAC you can decompress them to WAV or AIFF.
With the WAV or AIFF you can have iTunes convert them to whatever format you want... and it doesn't have to be MP3 to play on your iPod. AAC, MP4, Apple Lossless or just leave them as WAV or AIFF. MP3 is highly compressed and "low resolution" so you lose some of the audio information.

I use Flac Frontend and it takes like a min or 2 max to decode a show to wav. Big fan of this program as it does the job and as easy to use.

Maybe Audacity is just slow, but it could also be your computer. Media encoding times are a popular way of benchmarking systems.

I'm running Vista and have never had a conflict with Flac Frontend. It has a simple interface and you'll literally be converting tracks within minutes of installing it. And it's very fast.

Are you sure you're using Audacity to convert the FLAC files? I don't use Audacity so I cannot confirm this, but that's what their site says...

I use CDex, which is a CD ripper but can also encode mp3s from lossless formats (wav, flac, etc.). It uses LAME on the back end and I have it set to VBR quality 0 with joint stereo. Works very well.
If you get CDex, make sure you get the beta version, not the stable release. It hasn't been developed for a while, so it's an older program, but it works quite well.
