Match-up #31 - Fight Vs. Fiddler's Green

This was a tough one for me. Initially my gut said Fight, but then when I thought some more about it, I was swayed towards Fiddler's. I have always loved the song and when they played it for the first time in Calgary it was probably my greatest live Hip moment. But as I have heard from my wife many times before...first thought best thought.

We lay down seething, smell our pillows burn
And drift off to the place where you'd think we'd learn

Fight's a pretty good song, but it's Fiddler's-freakin'-Green.

Here we go again - another No Contest matchup that will confuse the :censored out of me when the votes are tallied!

For me, I got goose bumps when listening to Fight, but no emotions stirred like that when FG was on...

That's not fair man!

Fight is one of the Hips best songs but it will not stand a chance.

This one I can't pick :nooooo

want to be a nobody without peer
want to be a thought that's never done
want to shake your faith in human nature
want to break the hearts of everyone
want to be your wheezing screen door
want to be your stars of Algonquin
want to be your roaring floorboard
want to break the hearts of everyone

If it didn't go down in this round, I wouldn't see it having much of a chance in the next one anway!

OK. I slept on it and I am still at a loss. You guys on Hipbase are mostly Canadian, right? And you probably have a soft spot in your hearts for bands like Rush, right?

Then why the F do you all have this affinity for mellow songs? Hmmm...for Rush, let's take Something for Nothing versus Tears. Gee, which one is better?!!?! I love Tears, it's a great song, but Something for Nothing (like Fight versus FG) is clearly the one that a large majority of Rush fans would vote for.

Not on Hipbase! Granted there is such a teeny tiny sampling of Hip fans here, but nonetheless you guys vote for the mellow stuff. :nooooo :nooooo :nooooo

Where's my vaporizer...

I'm American (for what it's worth) and Rush is my favorite band (Hip's #2). I'm a hockey fan, too, so maybe I should've been Canadian. Anyway, I think the reason that mellow songs are winning is because this early in the tourney the mellow songs are just better. The rules say to pay attention to the lyrics, and I think that's where the winners are being decided. For how good a song Fight is, you have to admit the lyrics to Fiddler's Green have a lot more meaning because of how personal they are to Gord's life.

Just my 2 cents.

EDIT - I looked at the refreshed bracket image and the mellow vs. rocker stats seem about even. Daredevil beat Flamenco, Family Band beat Sharks, Cordelia beat Morning Moon, etc.
