Does anyone else hear this on their copy? There is some sort of pffft artifact I hear coming out of the left speaker at the 3:44-3:45 mark of the song.

Don't know if this is common to all WATS copies or if mine has a defect.

I've got some good news for you and some bad news as well...

Good news? It's not just your copy of WATS
Bad news? It's apparent on my copy as well! :lol:

I never noticed it before but that's partly because I don't really listen (or pay much attention) to The Depression Suite. There is a light, "glitchy" noise @ that particular part of the song though.

I guess to some people that could be a bit of an annoyance, but it's not an issue for me

I think it's just a short strumming of the guitar on the left channel?

It definately is a short guitar strum, played with the side of the right hand on the strings so it sounds a bit muffled.

I don't think so - it sounds too much like static - and why would it only be in one channel when the guitar is in both?

That particular acoustic guitar is in the left channel (well, at least during that part of the song). One second earlier you can hear it play two single notes, right before the strum.

I remember Big Sugar's greatest hits CD had a mastering error where a few seconds of antoher song was suddenly played on top of the current song.... they offered to exchange the CD if you mailed it in, but I kept mine.


Is the iTunes source the same as the CD? Or maybe is it some garbage from the MP3 encoding?

Guster put out a limited edition version of their second most recent disc and it had a steady static buzz in the left channel through the entire disc. They offered free replacements by mailing in your copy - but the version they sent back was the standard edition, not the limited edition version. I complained and ended up with both!

When I made my original post, I was referring to my CD version. Later in the thread, someone confirmed that the flub appears in the iTunes version as well, so it is not mp3 encoding garbage.

A bit disappointing since this is my favourite song on the new album. Oh well, ruined is not a nine minute song by a one second noise. I wonder if this was missed in Q/A or if it was something on the tape they just could not get rid of and left it on to add a bit of character?

Maybe the Hip or management will make a comment.
