Alice In Chains vs. Nirvana
#1

Been thinking some battle of the bands banter might jive things up a bit, lets start with this one..

Who was the better band, AIC or Nirvana??

As far as the term "better" or "best" goes, it can me anything you want, who rocked harder, more influence, lyrics, kick-assness take your pic...

Alice In Chains gets my vote, they rocked harder and I think Layne's voice is one of the best ever in hard rock. Album for album AIC kicked Nirvana's ass. Angry Chair is still one of my favorite rock songs ever.

And I just realised that both my videos cant embedd.. so if you want to rock out here's the links, its worth the extra second to wait for the video to load.

They embedded in the first post, fyi.. at least for me anyways. Good topic though, both were the 2 heavyweights of the grunge era, along with Pearl Jam. I'd go with Nirvana though, just a matter of personal opinion, but its close. Both bands ended pretty tragically though.

I should have phrased that better, they will embedd on the site but they wont play, it says embedding is disabled. Cause of the record company and its iron fist.

Does the video actually play for you?

For me it's Nirvana. I never really cared for Alice in Chains.

AiC's influence is nothing compared to what Nirvana did for music. Nirvana was the band and had the anthem of a generation. You can't compete with that.

I like Alice In Chains much more than Nirvana. I was a bigger fan of Screaming Trees and Soundgarden than the other 2 though.

I'd say AIC was more skilled musically. Nirvana was bigger for different reasons.

oh god i hate nirvana...

cobain's constant whining... "boo hoo... i don't want to be a role model.. boo hoo" and then he takes the loser way out of his problems.

Kurt's whole I hate myself and want to die bit was annoying and his drug use and subsequent suicide left a bitter taste in my mouth, is this the guy I want to idolize and put on a pedestal..hardly. Give me John Lennon anyday.

I dont know what was wrong with him or how much of his problems were related to drug abuse so Im not going to beat a dead horse. But after he died I pretty much gave up on Nirvana, these days I can barely listen to a Nirvana cd, it doesnt speak to me and its not music I enjoy anymore. Alice In Chains music though I can rock out to anytime, Layne's voice the wailing guitars and grinding riffs, great stuff.

I think there was a time and place for Nirvana. They served their purpose and had Kurt not taken the classy way out they probably wouldn't have lasted much longer anyways. They almost broke up daily while recording In Utero.

Having said that, I was a HUGE fan back in the day (and still am, I guess). If anyone wants a good read on Kurt Cobain pick up Heavier Than Heaven by Charles R. Cross. It sounds like Courtney Love has acquired the rights to it and is trying to turn it into a movie. Confusedcratch: I think sometimes it's best to let sleeping rock legends lie.
