Megatunes on 17th Avenue is currently selling the new U2 and the new Neko Case album, two days before street date (March 3rd). Hurry and get down there before they realize their mistake and pull them from the shelves. I was in there yesterday and was surprised to see both albums staring me in the face on their new release display. Since I already downloaded U2's album, I'm waiting until street date to buy the physical CD so I can get it cheaper from either Best Buy or HMV. But I just couldn't wait to hear Neko's album.
Record stores can get themselves in a lot of trouble by selling things before street date, so I'm curious as to how they're getting away with this. Hopefully they'll do the same thing with the new Hip album!

smaller shops do this all the time. how they get away with it is a formal complaint is rarely made, that and they are only selling maybe 5-10% of what a HMV or best buy sells. Also they generally sell them for $2-7 more than one of the major chains so if they can get away with selling a few early they do.

That makes sense. I spent $18.99 for the Neko Case record, but I have no problem paying that much money to help support an artist I really enjoy, not to mention helping to keep a great store like Megatunes alive. I'll gladly pay up to $20 to have the new Hip album a few days early. Here's hoping!

I remember going in years back looking for a Morphine Cd that hadn't been released yet....the owner sort of looked both ways to make sure no one was watching, slipped upstairs and grabbed a copy, swearing me to secrecy. MEgatunes is great!
