Timing is everything...

At the risk of sounding cliché...

This new Hip album could not come a BETTER time. If I look back on my life, the release of a new Hip album always seems to coincide with significant times in my life. Struggling through early university life alone and away from family and friends in the hostile province of Quebec with "Day For Night" and the inspiring opening drums of "Grace, too" to motivate me to focus. Living through the frustration of the ice storm and the ecological and psychological strain and sexual fumblings with half-strangers that kept us warm for 16 days of no power (32 days no cable was worse), and reliving it with a renewed optimism in "Something On" and Phantom Power. "Music at Work," and the summer camping trips with alcohol fueled sightings of "The Bear," on trips to see the Hip countless times in Quebec, Ontario and Vermont making me more home sick than ever (everyone has their breaking point, and I finally moved back home).

Now comes "We Are the Same" which could not have a more fitting title. My wife and I (who have been living the same monotonous lives for five long angry years) are still the same. Last week we decided to call it a day and end our marriage for the sake of our one year old daughter becuase we are the same, we have tried to change but we can't. Something on this album will resonate through my soul and become an anthem to navigate me through these tough times ahead...I know it...because the Hip have always been there for me when I needed them most.

I could not agree more! Hip releases always seem to occur at very significant times in my life too.

Ditto that guys...My wife's grandmother will be buried today and we listened to the song together for the first time this morning and it will forever be linked to her grandmother and we both had chills down our back and thought unbelievable that the song like this would come out today. Sad but also Smile

want to be a nobody without peer
want to be a thought that's never done
want to shake your faith in human nature
want to break the hearts of everyone
want to be your wheezing screen door
want to be your stars of Algonquin
want to be your roaring floorboard
want to break the hearts of everyone
