He's got a new album coming out and he's coming to Toronto in the spring. I'm psyched.

Probably my favourite solo(ish) artist these days - his last three albums (including the new one, an early contender for best of 2009) have been phenomenal. The older stuff has its moments as well, but I feel that his production has really met his potential on the last few releases. He's even better live, too, as he manages to take his lush, beautiful songs and make them into something that's not quite as intricate but just as enjoyable. When I saw him it was just him, a drummer, and a bassist, so he'd sequence a guitar sound, then sequence a violin sound, then sequence a whistle, then play something else, then change the sequences around, and so on. Live recordings (the Fingerlings series) are great, but still don't do him justice. so You're definitely in for a treat if you haven't seen him already. I may make the drive up to Toronto from Windsor if he doesn't add a Detroit date, though it depends on my schedule.

the new tune is what got me back into his stuff... amazing song.

i saw him once, opening for wilco at the fox theater in detroit. him solo. he was swapping instruments like mad and looping stuff all over the place, unbelievable to see. he also sat in with wilco for a few tunes... obviously wicked. i had never heard of him before that show, one of the few times an opening act has won me over. can't wait for april.
