I really believe this album gets a real harsh rap! I genuinely love M@W, especially the latter half. I would really love to songs like The Bear, Toronto #4 and Train Overnight live. I've just listened to the whole thing through twice, back to back, and I was getting shivers down my spine, especially (randomly) at the bit with the sirens in AIWDTP.
I know I'm not alone here! Come on, show some love. 8)

I just listened to it in its entirety last week for the first time in a few years. I wouldn't put it in my top 1 or 2 but it is certainlly underated and has some of the best overlooked gems in the Hip catalog on it. I like most everything on it except for (i know ill get hammered for this) Sharks and The Bear. Toronto #4, Lake Fever, Completest and Train Overnight are among the best things the Hip have ever done IMO.... I really liked that tour (both the summer to support that cd and the winter (an eveing with). I'd like to hear some of that stuff live again sometime... and..... IMO that was the best studio vocals Gord has ever done.....

For whatever reason i think of this album as one of the first where they moved away from vignette storytelling to really talking directly about THEIR (his) life in a certain time-period. Matters of the heart, life on the road, being a writer, friends & lovers--it's got more "I" in the song & less "let me tell you a story about somebody I knew/met/heard about".
song #3 is probably my favourite because it has unexpected ways of talking about love & sex & busting up. Also because I worked & fell in love in Algonquin Park so I know what it's like to be knocked off yer feet by lake fever. Also a fan of mmaw, puttin down, stay.
The completists is unique--like scared is unique. shivery. I rarely listen to it but i don't forget it's there.
I like this album. I seldom listen to the songs past stay which is song #5.
This album translates well in the live shows. Great to watch, great to hear.

M@W has definitely gotten better with age. At times it's all over the place and not all the songs work (I still can't stand Freak Turbulence or Wild Mountain Honey), but there are some real gems on that record: Music, Fever, Tiger, Puttin Down, Stay, Completists, Train Overnight, The Bear, and Wind Down the Pines are all stellar tunes.

I listened to this album all fall, and I got to tell ya, 'As I Wind Down The Pines' got me every time.

I think there was a thread about this started by Stephen Dame a while ago. Brilliant album. I really don't understand the bad rap it gets. Almost every song is amazing, and I as well, would love it if they pulled some of these songs out again live. In the summer of 06, Putting Down was a fairly regular member of setlists, and I was really lucky to be able to hear Tiger the Lion at the Phoenix in 06, and Lake Fever still gets played from time to time.
Songs like Toronto #4, The Completeists, The Bear, Train Overnight and As I Wind Down the Pines (which has only been played once or twice I believe) would be incredible to see live.
Also, the siren on As I Wind Down the Pines was recorded by accident I believe. An ambulance drove by the recording studio and they decided to leave it on the final version. I'm glad they did.

I thought it had something to do with the Mic's that caused that sound? in any case, great Album :thumb:

Agreed this is a great CD start to finish especially Tiger the Lion, Lake Fever and closing it out with Wind Down the Pines one of their best CDs:thumb: I have had the tedious task of putting up drywall and then painting my basement, thank god for The Hip I start with their self titled CD and continue right through to WC helps the day go by quicker and make me work faster....you know my music at work...

Music @ Work is defintely one of my top 5 Hip albums. It's such a diverse album and deserves more attention from the band when they're making up their setlist. Here is my attempt at highlighting the album in just over 7 minutes.

That was one of the single coolest most epic youtube/hip videos I have ever seen.
