Powderfinger vs Nautical Disaster
#1

Hey all,

Saw in a previous thread a link about Hip cover tunes a year or so back. One is Neil Young's classic "Powderfinger".

Just saw Neil play in Vancouver and he played the tune, 4th or 5th song of the night... while Neil was playing I couldn't help but think how much it reminded me of "Nautical Disaster" in its, among other things, water imagery, sense of foreboding and structure (or lack therof - no chorus).

Anyways, there is a show the Hip did in Regina, January 19, 07 and I can't seem to find a recording of that song. Would love to hear how the Hip pulled it off.

Aside from that, I suggest everyone give Powderfinger and N.D. a listen back-to-back and tell me if I'm crazy (or not).

I've never heard a fan-recorded version from that show, but MAv made that cover thehip.com SOTD a while ago. It was good. Maybe if you're lucky he'll cue it up in the rotation again sometime soon.

It was recorded, I just haven't gotten around to getting it on computer. 2 kids slowed things right down for me. I still record but now it goes into a box on a shelf. Maybe I'll try and get to it this weekend.

Try playing Long time Running and REM's Strange Currencies back to back.
