Hey Bonner, ya snooze ya lose!

Home of The Hip

The Tragically Hip perform at The K-Rock Centre Saturday, Feb. 23. Proceeds from the concert will go towards Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, a grassroots waterfront community that promotes access to public waterways and accountability for polluters.

The Hip formed in Kingston and have had their studio close by in Bath for over 15 years.

“It is our home and it is where the heart of the Hip resides,” explains Gord Downie.

The Hip have made four records there and it has been a source of inspiration and recording place for many other musicians.

Downie’s long-standing support for Waterkeepers prompted a cross-Canada tour with the Hip, a solo appearance at ideaCity05, and many fund and awareness raising events like this upcoming show.

Hi folks,...Lake Ontario Waterkeeper is a grassroots environmental charity that supports the efforts of dedicated individuals and community groups working to protect their local waterway and win back the right to safely swim, drink, and fish. This support takes on a number of forms - legal advice or action, submissions to various ministries, educating students and the public, and creating public forums for fair debate and decision-making.

The Tragically Hip have been strong supporters of the organization since its inception in 2001. In 2004, Waterkeeper toured the country with the band. In 2007 Gord Downie participated in the Heart of a Lake Tour which stopped in Oshawa, Whitby, and Kingston for an evening of music, spoken word and discussion of local clean water issues.

Waterkeeper's radio show - Living at the Barricades - airs every Thursday from 5:30-6:00pm on CFRC 101.9fm in Kingston and is podcast at www.waterkeeper.ca/radio and on iTunes.

In 2008, Waterkeeper release its first music compilation, At the Barricades: Volume 1 featuring Gord Downie, Broken Social Scene, Sarah Harmer, Dave Bidini, Chris Brown, Kate Fenner, Pete Seeger, Stars, Bruce Cockburn, Bill Frisell, and more. The album was produced by Chris Brown.
