Hey listers -

I'm downloading videos (the Eurohip bunch) for the first time and I'm not sure what this entails. I do not have a DVD burner and very little room to manoeuvre on my HD (40 gigs total, just getting the 9 gigs on my comp will be a challenge). So the question is, what should I do once I've downloaded the vids. I would like to store them elsewhere while I find a way to get a DVD burner? How big is each individual vid? I guess I can't put them on a normal cd...

The EuroHip VIDEOS are not on the tracker yet, just the AUDIO, so I would stop your download and sit tight until they get posted.

Thanks for the heads up Chris. Actually, I'm going to finish this d/l as I only have 3 of these in audio (and i'm on a mission to get the Brussels show). Are these Mark's recordings?

About the DVD files...which format do they come out as and how big are they on average? Can I watch these directly on a computer or should I burn them first?

So this 8 gig file is audio eh? So each file is greater than 700 megs meaning on average I can't get a show on a normal cd...shoot.

EPenguin. The files are so large becase the HipTracker uses only lossless FLAC files. But an average Hip show would need two CDs anyway, due to the length...

Yes I'm aware of this which is why i've been trying to upgrade my old shows to FLAC for a few years now. My question was not regarding the size of the files and perhaps this was my fault since I wasn't very clear. Normally, from my past experiences a show rarely surpasses 700 Mb so it fits on a normal CD (ie. all East coast shows). It seems the EuroHip shows are of higher quality as they are larger (closer to a gig), since they were not any longer (actually some were shorter) than the average previous shows (the Brussels show was actually cut short). No big deal, I'll put it on two CDs if that's the case.

So my question pertained to DVD files, as in what do I do with them once I download them...what format are they in...do I need to burn them with a DVD burner...etc...

Sorry, no it was me who was being stupid. I waqs referring purely to audio length rather than file size for them not fitting anyway... apologies.

From what I remember, having only burned one. I copied all of the files across to a DVD burner (I used Nero Burning Rom) and set it up as a video DVD. From there I just burned it and went for it... If thats a bit avgue I apologise, I'm not very tech oriented.

The videos of the shows are standard DVD TS files, and each show is compressed/encoded to fit on a standard 4.7Gb DVD. You can watch them on your computer, or burn them to DVD for watching on a DVD player. They are in NTSC format which works on all North American players, but I cannot guarantee that they will work on all European players as your video standard is PAL.

The 8 gig file is 24bit audio of all of the shows. Normally shows are distributed in 16bit format. Unless you have software that can play 24bit files you might be out of luck for even listening to them. There is a 16bit torrent also on the tracker. This is what most users should download. (markslog records in 24bit - higher resolution essentially - and then converts it to 16bit for most fans.)

All the shows on the tracker are supposed to be lossless. As well, shows are normally posted in 16bit. In most cases a show, in 16bit, will fit on a single CD if left as FLAC files.

Good question. But I don't know the answer unless you are a Mac user. If so, Quicktime will play 24bit audio without any conversion. To convert I user Quicktime Pro and/or Rogue Amoeba's Fission.

For 24bit audio (and for PCs), you can downsample it to 16bit for audio cds, using Adobe Audition, but if you're downloading 24bit just to downsample, you should just be downloading the 16bit to begin with.

I've tried the evaluation software at http://www.cirlinca.com/welcome.htm to create & burn 24bit audio files to DVD-Audio, but since I don't own high end stereo/theatre gear, I believe I can only play the discs on my computer anyway (it was a while back that I tried this, so I don't remember the exact results of my experiment)

I see. I'll cancel this download (this is going to cost me so much in terms of ratio!) and download the 16 bit.
