Okay, so I saw the Tragically Hip 3 times in New York City, twice at Irving Plaza and once in Central Park
Haven't see 'em since then...maybe 4 or 5 years.
Was thinking of driving all the way from St. Louis to Barrie (and perhaps Ottowa for the Gord show) in order to see them again. It's only 1400Km.
Is Edgefest a looney bin? Will I be able to see and hear them well? Will it be worth it? What is the airspeed of an unladen swallow?
Saw the thread regarding a private show, and would DIG that BIG TIME. Haven't been to Toronto in 15 years. Would I do well to bring my bicycle up to Algonquin Park in the first week of September? Ride around and dodge the Moose?
Love to hook up with some Hipsters and see a show...let me know your opinions on Edgefest
Thanks

An African or a European swallow? It really depends. And as far as swallows carrying coconuts, it's not really a matter of where he would grasp it (by the husk, for example), it's really a matter of weight ratios. The actual air-speed of an unladen swallow is 40 to 50 miles per hour. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, it needs to beat its wings 43 times every second...but why does it matter? The damn coconuts shouldn't have even BEEN in Europe...coconuts don't migrate!

That would corespond to a BPM of 258. My observation is that swallows rarely beat their wings, but more often soar. Coconuts may increase the weight ratio beyond their physical abilities, but don't underestimate the the determination of the tiny swallow.
If you ever hike up the Virgin River in Zion, you can see the swallows soaring about...they nest in the canyon walls. Their bellies are the color of the sky, and their backs are the color of the river. Amazing little creatures.
Do the moose in Algonquin fly?

Perhaps an African swallow could carry a coconut, but then again, African swallows don't migrate.
Yes the moose fly in Algonquin, but they don't migrate :thumb:

So, is it cool and bugless in Algonquin in the first week of September? Is that a good time to go? Who the hell is Gordo anyway?
I'm just the inquisitive type...

Greetings!
As a former Ontarian and current riding enthusiast I can only provide thoughts based on my experiences to some of your questions. As the swallow question has already been answered I will not begin there (although Barrie is famous for its Killer Bunnies...you have been warned!).
Edgefest is a worthwhile experience fully AND completely even though the heyday of all Canadian acts on July 1st has since passed the lineup this year is way better than recent ones. The venue is a large outdoor General Admission type-sort-of amphitheatre and if you don't stand behind the sound booth you will be able to have a great view. The sound is finicky in some places but overall great if mixed properly, which the boys should have no problem with since they have played the venue numberous times before. Yes, it is a loony bin, Yes you will be able to see and hear them well, Yes it will be worth it. I am tempted to go myself but I'm in the process of starting a new job and don't think it would look too good if I ditched out the first Friday I was there to fly back!
The question of riding in Algonquin brings another answer though and as long as you were willing to continue your drive from Barrie to the Park I think it would be a lovely time to ride the trails and dodge the moose.
Hope this was helpful, good luck with the trip!
All for now,

btw 1400km is not that far, drove about that much once to see them in Albany....so worth it
