Hipbasers Unite 2: A Tragically Hip Fan Book?
#1

I figure that now is the time to start something, if people are interested, as we have a few months (?) to get organized.

Would people be interested in putting together a tour book, from the fans point of view? A professionally produced book that chronicals the tour, from the fans point of view, with different people submitting their stories, pics, reviews of each show.

After each show, people compile their thoughts/photos/reviews, and submit them. These are then layed out, into the book, and so it goes.

We can come up with the basic specs ahead of time, and get the costs - take orders up front, payment via Paypal, etc., - and send it out after the tour.

I think that within the fanbase here, we can get the project done; and there are definitely enough fans who would be willing to buy, if the price is right. In the spirit of bootlegs, this is a non-profit venture.

I assume this would need to be OK'd by the band - but if the support is there, I think they would go for it.

I am a sales rep at a large printing company in Toronto, and have access/the ability to keep the printing/production costs way down.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'll let you make that decision.

I think it's an excellent idea , be cool to see the tour from what the fan experience is , that's what we all live for is the "live" experience . I'm in. :thumb:

What a FAN-tastic idea Chris! (sorry, that was bad, but we all know it had to be done) I'd be willing to put in my two cents.

Cheers!

Good idea but I personally think it would be far better as a video style documentry. Interviewing people at the live shows, seeing the crowd, hearing the music in the background. A book wouldnt give it the right "feel" for me.

I still hope the Hip do a live DVD and incorporate some of that into it. The live Hip experience is awesome. Anyone knows that Smile

I've been a graphic designer for close to 9 years now. I'd be happy to provide services for such a venture.

Oh count me in!! I've seen enough shows and have enough pictures to gladly kick in my two cents! And I'll be at more of the upcoming shows for the next CD. Oh swell, it sounds like a great idea!

You should take steps now to run it past the band. I'm sure they'll be legal docs to be signed...royalties...all that fun stuff.

But very cool indeed!

I proposed a similar idea on the newsgroup about a year ago... got a great reaction, but very few willing to help out.

I wanted to compile road stories, memorabilia and fan photos with written works in an attempt to describe to the uninitiated just why we love the band so much.

If anybody has seen the "Trudeau Albums" coffee table book that was released in 2000, that was the format I had in mind. The Rolling Stones Fans put out a pretty good fan book years ago as well...

I'm a journalism/social science grad with expeience at major dailies and a few connections to people linked to the band, so I'd be willing to help out in any way I can if this gets off the ground.

As someone really wanting to look into a journalism program as my next degree, I'm interested in whatever I can do to make this a success. Count me in!

Cheers

I would be interested in purchasing a copy too.. Sounds like a nice idea.. Fan reviews are always so nice to read.. and fan experiences too.. Wink

It would be great.. if after some of you, see any of the upcoming shows.. If you wouldn't mind posting a review at my website.. I am the only one that really talks about The Tragically Hip there.. Lately, I have actual bands joining.. which is fun.. but.. they don't type show reviews of themselves

Cheers! 8)

A DVD/tourbook combo from the fans' perspective would be an interesting keepsake. I too stumbled across this thread, I'm not much help in abilities or talents to help put it together but it is a very good idea! :thumb:

Me too, this would be a great launching point to try that route out. Would this be something the Hip themselves would want to contribute to?
