Because I made a typo in the Fredericton show thread, I feel obligated to create a new, general thread about the camera policy.

I do apologise.

The camera policy for the Hip has always been, that no SLR type camera's are permitted.

For those that do not know, SLR stands for Single Reflex Lens. This is the type of camera that has a detachable lens and is in the style of an "old school" camera.

You can bring a small, digital or instant camera however. And of course, nobody will take your cell phone away either.

You sure about this? The tickets say right on them no cameras and I was at the box office for its opening today and they have printouts on the windows saying no cameras. I don't want to take my digital and then get stuck with it if they want to take it away

He's talking about the band's policy. Venues usually have their own policy.

Ya, I understand their policy and they don't mind - but I'm worried about venue rules.
No biggie - I'll keep the camera in the hotel room and hope for pictures on the next couple shows.

Here is the rule of thumb, when attending Hip shows. . .

If you want to bring a video camera, recording gear or a "small" camera, do not be afraid.

Rule #1 & 2
Go early, in case you run into issues with security.
Be polite

If you run into issues, ask to them to speak to the head of security and wait patiently.

At no time should you get angry or show an attitude. If you do, all is fair and nobody will really help you, or care.

Be polite and be early are my two rules of thumb. Many people on this board will vouch for these two rules. On more than one occasion, I have escorted people in with their gear. On more than one occasion have people had to wait while the issues have been sorted out. The ones who do this regularly are always early and are always polite.

this thread reminded me that in yesterday's "journal pioneer" there was a nice/short interview w/ johnny where he more/less gave a shout out to the tapers saying they were the real fans looking for an alternate version of the records...

the newspaper website doesnt have any archive really, if the print edition is still at work when i go in this evening ill grab & scan it

that's one of the major reasons I go to Hip gigs is to capture special moments...been doing it for years...
