The beach areas are amazing,(Koh Samui, Ralay beach, outside of Krabe) but you have to go to the northern city of Chang Mai, the food is amazing, and the people super friendly. The less time you soend in Bankok the better!

Thanks. I was planning on spending more time in Chiang Mai than BKK actually. I'm not interested in being around hookers all day long and ladyboys surrounding me everywhere I go and ping pong ...er never mind.

Seriously though, for some of the cheapest great food in the world, Chang Mai is where it's at.
The Islands are not to be missed as well, some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and again, cheap to stay and eat...

I went for 2 months in 2002. Loved every minute of it.
I flew in to Bangkok, took a train down to the Gulf and stayed on both Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Samui. I was there at this time of year and it is not the rainy season in the gulf like it is in Phuket.

Experience a Full Moon party if you can and certainly experience a bucket or two!

You'll have a blast!

The great thing is, you can do both, and the trip north or south is only $150 or so...I took the overnight train from Bangkok to Chang Mai, which was cheap, saved me a night's hotel as well...take your own food and drink though, it's expensive and shitty on the train

Ive been there twice for a month at a time....just loved it!

The only upgrade at this time of year that I found to be worth it was a/c. It really helps you sleep at night!
