Match-up #29 - 38 Years Old Vs. Poets
I ask you to listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song. Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of both songs in this thread, but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.

Poets...Das Hips last great "First" single...And truly an incredible tune...The song never fails live, especially when Mr. Fay throws in some serious drum fills, a la NYE 1999...I always thought this tune would evolve into a Meridian/New Orleans, hoping they'd really jam out that middle, try out some new jams, stretch it into a 10 minute number...But hey, it still rocks with fervour...
And 38 Years Old? A cool story, but I never really understood the allure...I was happy they brought it back last summer, but Poets, that's a heavyweight...

Poets because it's a legend amongst my friends and I. "It'll be worth it if they do Poets" has become my concert-going motto.

Poets is great but there is just something about 38YO
They mostly came from towns with long French names
But one of the dozen was a hometown shame.

Poets = meh... I've never really been pulled in by Poets. There is a lot of love for the song on here, which is fine, but I have never found the undying affection for the song. Personal opinion I guess.
For me it's 38 YO. One of the hips best ballads. It's always been a song that seems to capture my attention when it is on. With any song it is always the melody that pulls me in before I even open an ear to lyrics but this one had me right away, both lyrics and melody.
