I was just interviewed for a Hip documentary that'll air on Global TV, likely in September of 2007. They're interested in fan culture, cover bands, and folks who travel to see the band play in The States. Interviewer was eager, and sounds like they're just beginning serious research.

Does anybody around here know Jeremy Hoyle? If so, could you e-mail me. Thanks.

Cool stuff.

I think that I saw a band with Jeremy Hoyle once... lemme go check google.

[edit]Yep! The Strictly Hip is his band.[/edit]

And there have been more than a few posts here at Hipbase about him/his band(s).

Jer can be reached by e-mail...I want to say its his name @strictlyhip.com but that could be wrong...either way, you can contact him by googling strictly hip and or his name. The site used to be strictlyhip.homestead.com or something like that, but just run a search. He is a really nice guy.

It's being done for Global by Good Company Pictures. Anybody know their work?

[NegPhil]

This could be a really cool documentary. Is it a feature length program or a segment?

[mrlayance]

Interesting, looking forward to it.

According to thier site:

An insightful and humorous documentary series exploring a world that lies somewhere between fame and obscurity, the world of tribute bands.

There has been a phenomenal increase in the number of tribute bands in the last decade. We want to discover why that is, and more importantly, what are the stories of the tribute artists? We’re producing a documentary series exploring the world of original artists and their tribute bands that will be broadcast across Canada for Global Television.

We would like to hear your stories, see your performance photos and performance footage from live shows. In order to better explore the art of tribute we would like to collect the work of a wide range of artists for this anthology series.

Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to forward a submission.

I wonder if they'd be interested in folks from the US (a non-border state, even) who happened upon the Canadian band's work over a decade and a half ago by freak chance, and were so impacted that they sought out all material in existence at the time and have since traveled far and wide to see almost 40 shows?

Somebody with such a story sounds damn interesting to me!

It surely does, but I'd be interested in somebody doing a documentary on Mark Slogett (sp?) who treks across the country and records every show possible. That's a true Canadian hero :thumb:
