A 5.5 magatude earthquake centered at the Ontario-Quebec Border Region, as defined by the United States Geological Society, stuck the WNY region this afternoon.
The quake seemed to last for about 30 seconds in Ottawa and rattled downtown buildings, homes in west-end Ottawa and government offices across the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Que.
The Internet is abuzz with people saying they felt the earth rumble around 1:45pm EST.
The News 4 newsroom has received reports from as far as Jamestown of a tremor that lasted from 30 to 45 seconds in most cases.
Our sisters stations in Indianapolis, Grand Rapids and Springfield, MA have received calls in their newsroom abouts the quake also.

it fucking woke me up here in Sudbury! i could see my walls shaking, the whole fucking house was shaking, my computer monitor looked like it was about to fly off the desk! i was pissed at first, i thought it had something to do with the construction and blasting they've been doing behind my house, but then my girlfriend told me it was an earthquake! some scary shit, i'm glad i don't live in Cali.

i was playing guitar while on the computer and there were a bunch of tall shelves around me and they started shaking and so did the monitor ... after it was over i went outiside and all my neighbours were on their porches looking really surprised and one dude came outside in a towell lol

Didn't even feel like here in Burlington, VT. But I work 3rd so i was sleeping and a bunch of friends at work texted me saying they felt the building shake.

I work at St. Mike's hospital in downtown T.O. Pretty sure I'm the only one in Southern Ontario who didn't feel it. I came out of the dark room and literally everybody had stopped working and were talking about it. I had no idea...

My brother works at Penske in Ottawa. They all ran outside to see what idiot drove a truck into the building. He said the only thing that was affected was his cell phone network. Up until around 10 last night he still had no reception. Cell tower is probably tallest thing around standing by itself. Something more than likely fell off/broke. No other damage.
I'm in Richmond Hill and i felt my desk and my chair moving. I thought maybe i was getting dizzy so i didn't say anything. Then my boss came and asked if i felt it. So i knew i wasn't crazy. :lol:

The epicenter was about 35 km from my house...it was quite a good shaker. This is the 3rd earthquake I have been in and it was the strongest one yet.
It didn't last very long, no more than 15-20 seconds max and there were 2 distinct waves...the second one being the more ferocious of the 2. Needless to say everyone I was around was quite shaken up. The strange thing is that there were no aftershocks...thankfully. I can't imagine being in a 8.0+ magnitude for 90 seconds or longer....THAT would be terrifying.
I feel like a bit of a wuss complaining about a 5.5 when people in Pakistan, China, Iran etc have gone through much worse.
