The Grand Bounce - Gord Downie and The Country of Miracles

longseason Wrote:Wow — I love this album. Chris Walla — please do the Hip's next album. Please!

I agree! Some of the tunes on this album could've easily been performed with Robby, Johnny, Gord, and Paul, and released under the Tragically Hip moniker. Hell, "Night is For Getting" IS a Hip song. Strangely though, it's like he saved his very best material for the solo record. That's not to say there aren't some excellent moments on World Container and We Are the Same. But as a collection of songs, The Grand Bounce is better than the last two Hip records combined. I think it's safe to say that the Hip need to get away from Bob Rock ASAP and work with someone else next time. I know Downie is very good friends with Bob, but it's clear that they need a change. I can only hope that the next Hip album has as much creative energy, exuberance, and beauty as The Grand Bounce. I've only spent a couple of days with it, but it already has my vote for album of the year. Mr. Downie has truly outdone himself with this one.

Hey Tthip thanks for putting all this info from articles to video on our great Hipbase site. I rarely have time to get to listen or watch at the exact time that this is all on but then it is awesome that I can come here and see and hear it all thanks to you. Don't know how you manage to do it and I don't care just keep them coming :thumb:

want to be a nobody without peer
want to be a thought that's never done
want to shake your faith in human nature
want to break the hearts of everyone
want to be your wheezing screen door
want to be your stars of Algonquin
want to be your roaring floorboard
want to break the hearts of everyone

I have never seen a booklet like this included with a CD before.
I like it. Quite original.
But mine is missing the lyrics to The East Wind. Is everyone elses?

Mine is too. I'm guessing it's supposed to only include that one quote that makes up the lyrics for the chorus. I think that's all you really need for that tune. The verses are very short and it's quite easy to make out what he's singing. The rest of the songs are much more lyric-heavy.

Pearl Jam have been using this style of booklet ever since Yield (and with the exception of Backspacer).
