Serious asnwers please. Having the discussion with the wife, I say Gord, she says no. Who would you agree with?

I would love it. But my girlfriend would never go with it. Guaranteed she'd say something like "if you want to name your kid Gord, why don't you go have your kid with HIM!"

I like the name - and I thought about it - not really about Downie - but all of my friends/family would pick on me and just think I was more messed up than I appear to be if I named my kid Gord.
My friend though - she is kinda messed up.
She named her kid Gordon Edgar.
I believe Edgar is even Downies middle name.
My other friend named his daughter Josephine. He swears to his wife it is not because of The Hip.

Yeah she can't get past holding a little baby and saying "aww little Gordie" part. I'm losing in the poll so far. lol.
My brother in law talked my sister into naming their daughters; Maggie (simpsons) and Molly ( whisky in the jar)..I figured I'd have more hope.

Aside from the obvious reason for wanting to, Gordon is still a great Canadian name if you ask me. I would say sure, go for it.

I'd like too as well, but my fiancee has defenitely put the kibosh on it. She's becoming a fan of the band but she has said, for her, the name is a bit old fashioned and sounds like something a super-obsessed fan would do. I agree with the super-obsessed part but not the old fashioned part. And its a bit ironic seeing how she is named for one of the Greek goddessess of wisdom

Not only is my last name way to similar, I agree with the obsessed fan comment, so I could definitely not get approval.

my dog is named gord... get a dog name it gord it wont talk back and you will never have to say gord in anger when punishing your kid... :mrgreen:

I toyed with the idea... But as my grandfathers name was Gordon, I had an more reasonable explanation than The Hip. But as a couple have already posted Gord is a very common Canadian name; if you like the name do it!

My daughter is named Maggie-I'd like to say it's not because of the Simpsons, but I can't be 100% sure.

13 days to go before my son is due to arrive and we're still not set on a name... I don't think I'll get the go-ahead for Gord though.
And at this point she's so "hormoned-up" she's likely to throw something sharp at me if I even suggested it.
