This may be a silly question, but is there any reason to believe cameras won't be allowed? Or are we to assume they are good to go? Last week the ACC made a huge deal about them not being allowed at G n' R. They sent e-mails, had a guy going through the line up to get in repeating it over and over, even left me a voice mail on my cell. I've seen nothing of the sort for this concert, but I don't want to get there and have them hold my camera as ransom.

Any thoughts?

I remember there being big signs at Hamilton place about no cameras and obviously it was allowed. I have a p&s camera, not too tiny though, and no option of a purse. I'm just not a purse kinda guy. :jump

This was one for the memories. Hilarious antidotes, GD once again having his way with an interviewer, Lightfoot going deep with some stories (although sadly somewhat out of it during other times) INCREDIBLE sound... Wow. I will remember this night for a very long time.

Both GD and Lightfoot played 4 songs each. All told the event ran a pretty even 2 hours. The names of Lightfoot's first two songs escape me, but the second two were If You Could Read My Mind and Let It Ride. GD played Morning Moon, Willow Logic, Hard Canadian and Bobcaygeon.

Hard Canadian is from the new album with the Sadies, out in May. It was first played at an RBC gala before Christmas. GD told a story how you should never debut a song in front of bankers; all they did was talk. "It was like playing at the Horseshoe; 75 years of music and 75 years of people talking at the back of the room." Classic. As a song, watch out. If you listen to Radio 2 at all (and you should - it's as close to free-form radio as you'll get in North America), this song will be all over it come the summer. Once it has a backing band to it, it'll have a very Summer Is Killing Us kind of vibe to it (without all the things that people hate about that song).

I had never seen GD play Hip songs solo before, outside of the videos Mav has put up on the official site. It sounded to me as if he was simply playing his parts of the song, rather than the lead guitar lines. Well, that I'm certain of: he was not playing Rob's, or even Paul's parts during his versions. Morning Moon and Bob C were almost totally re-arrainged because of it. Moon was saved by a remarkable GD vocal, but Bob C was just as good. Different... but still just as good.

The moment of zen: no one cheering after the Toronto line. It was oddly comforting.

It'll be broadcast Easter Sunday on Radio 2. I hope to hell they keep the e-mail GD read aloud from his brother. He never said which one it was, but after GD revealed he was doing this evening with Lightfoot, one of them wrote and relayed the experience of hearing "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" for the first time.

Paraphrasing: "... we got to Bath by the time the song was done. I turned to him and said 'Holy Fuck, what was that?' We got some beer and smoked some grass and kept driving around hoping the radio would play the song for us again."

Great night.

Wow what a night, it was amazing. I sat in the third row and have never been that close to either Gordon as they performed. I took my dad who is a huge Lightfoot fan, and he was really impressed with Downie. He was going home to youtube some HIP stuff lol. Anyways to top off my night, when they asked a question from the audience, mine was the one they asked Downie. The question was how do you think the songwriting process has changed for you since you began, do you work differently then you used too. I got a chill as I heard Laurie ask Downie the question. All in all a fantastic eveniing of music and conversation. Also as others have mentioned the sound was just phenomenal.

Were you on the aisle on Laurie Brown's side? With your Dad next to you? If so, I was next to him with my Mother-in-law. She, much like your Dad, loved it.

The night was a lot of fun. Contrary to what Pat wrote there were no antidotes shared; but there were some fun anecdotes.

Downie got teary eyed a couple of times, and his reverence for Mr Lightfoot was palpable. When asked if a song can be too personal Lightfoot said no, but Downie started to tell the story of Fiddler's Green, got a little choked up, and deferred with a joke to Lightfoot... Sadly Laurie Brown, the interviewer, did a crap job of getting either one of them to complete their stories.

Downie is a funny dude and he really commands the spotlight - even with a star as bright as Lightfoot on stage with him.

After the Holiday Jam, I kept thinking how cool it would be to see Gord Downie and Gordon Lightfoot on the same stage. It certainly was an amazing thing. I can't believe they had never met before. Downie was so nervous, excited, and humbled all at once - it really came across how proud he was to be on that stage.

I could listen to Gord 'til the cows come home. He's so interesting, and has a unique way of putting words together. I didn't think Laurie Brown did a great job, but she wasn't really needed. She asked a question, Lightfoot would misunderstand it and answer a different way, then he'd defer to Gord, "well, why don't you take that one Gord". I never laughed so much at a music event than I did last night!

I really enjoyed Catherine MacLellan too. I couldn't even imagine performing one of the great's songs in front of him. She did a great job.

Great night. Great venue. Great songwriters. (wow, too many "great's" in this post).

Yes Chris I was, on the aisle in row c, my dad the second seat in, thats great that I was right beside you. There was a question box, in the hallway just outside the theatre, it was a written question and it had to be limited to questions about songwriting and the process of songwriting. I couldnt believe it that they picked my question.

It was very cool seeing the contrasts between the Gords
