2011 Winter Classic- Where?
#1

Tomorrow being the Flyers in Fenway to battle the Bruins makes me think where should next years game be held?

New Yankee Stadium Rangers vs Devils/Islanders
New Minnesota Ballpark Wild vs Stars
Coors Field Avs vs Flames

What do you all think? and how bout the Avalanche so far!

If I can't vote for Buffalo again, I will have to say option 2 is the most appealing to me as a fan. However, American hockey coverage probably wouldn't do enough to hype the story behind Dallas and Minnesota! I love it though.

How about the new Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey?
New York Rangers vs New York Islanders. (maybe Rangers/Devils)

That's a tough question, i like the idea of a game in Minnesota, and while i think it's time the game comes to Canada once again, being a Ranger fan i'm partial to a Yankees Stadium. It doesn't really matter either way whether it's against the Devs or Isles.

The rumor I have heard is McMahon Stadium in Calgary
Flames Vs. Canucks

After seeing todays game played in a baseball stadium - I definitely choose a football stadium from now on.

Pheonix, Arizona.

I mean, I keep hearing that it's such a great hockey town, and all.

I heard the same rumor, as well as the rumor that they're going to do two of them next year. One in the U.S. and one in Canada. Flames vs. 'Nucks would be great, especially considering how much those teams hate each other.

I just got a survey sent to me from NHL.com Fan Face Off Panel. It's like a focus group of nhl fans. It was asking if I'd watch a Canadian one, and if I'd watch it if it were on the same day as the american one. As well, it asked if I'd watch it if it were on a different day than the american one and if I'd watch both if that were the case.

The last part was kind of interesting though. It mentioned that there were talks to have a weekly outdoor game (in various different cities) starting first weekend in Feb and going until the end of the regular season, using big rivalries, etc to create interest. I think that would be amazing.

Man....I think something like that would REALLY kill the appeal....

But anyway, the ESPN insider deal on their website said that the rumors going around next year was Caps and Rangers.

I didn't even watch the one yesterday, I have no interest at all in watching two teams I hate (Bruins and Flyers) so watching them play outside, in an American city doesn't make that game any more appealing to me.

I'd watch a Canadian one for sure, but I think the whole idea is getting a little out of hand. The first one between the Habs and Oilers was fantastic because it was something new and exciting. Having it yearly has taken away from the uniqueness and excitement of it for me, and having one every week would completely take away the uniqueness. It's the same as the way the shootout has taken all of the excitement out of penalty shots now.

I wouldn't be a fan of the weekly outdoor games in different cities. I'm not even sure about having the 2 seperate games, 1 in Canada 1 in the US. I personally think the NHL has a great thing going with the single game on New Years Day & wouldn't risk losing any of it's appeal but making it more of a regular occarance.

Caps/Rangers would be interesting, personally as a Rangers fan i'd rather see them face one of their rivals like the Devils or Islanders, but as far as a national audience goes, maybe it'd be more benficial for the league to have the Rangers face a team like Ovechkin's Caps as opposed to 2 teams from the NY area. A Pittsburgh/Washington matchup would ideal for obvious reasons, but the Pens were just part of the 2008 game.

While the NHL has a great thing going for them, it's only a matter of time before mother nature decides not to cooperate at one of these events.

I think they should have one in Winnipeg or Quebec City...Phoenix vs. Toronto in Winnipeg, or Colorado vs. Montreal in Quebec City, with Phoenix wearing Jets unforms, or the Avs in Nordiques gear.
