Hip playing Olympics?
#1

I know its still early, but has anyone heard if our favourite band is going to be playing during the Games? I know there are nightly medal ceremonies which are supposed to be paired with some sort of concert.

Given Salt Lake, I figure they have to be in Vancouver.

interesting...Wilco announced their Canadian tour this week and they have a date at the Olympics, Feb. 13th....and free too. It is at David Lam Park.

I know our good friend Joel Plaskett is playing a show at the Orpheum in Vancouver on January 23 in support of the 2010 games.

For anyone who's not yet had the pleasure, scoop up some tickets and prepare yourself for one of music's finest writers (and he's no slouch of a performer either).

The Wilco show is part of a nightly free concerts series - other announced acts so far include Sam Roberts Band, Wintersleep, and Blue Rodeo.

What tragically.pat is referring to are the nightly concerts at BC Place that are supposed to be part of the medal ceremonies. I don't think they've announced any details yet, but surely The Hip would be a logical choice for one night at least.

Not to mention a nice guy! Got to see him at Harvest Jazz and Blues this year, he was around to sign cds and stuff for everyone after the show, couldnt resist to get his latest album signed! He also talked to me about Gordie Johnson...which was really cool...

On a slightly related note ... I happen to be on business in St John's this week and was in the know that the Olympic torch would be at Cape Spear this morning for the sunrise event. I've never been here so I thought it would be a good opp to witness this and also visit Signal Hill before heading back to Toronto. I have to say that it was an amazing experience; witnessed a stunning Atlantic sunrise, met a couple of Olympians, and put some context to beautiful Silver Jet. I know who Marconi is now! Awesome.

I also need to mention this a stunning part of the great white north!

I am attending the Olympics next month. Feb 16-25th. I got tickets to a few medal ceremonies that include concerts, Bare Naked Ladies, on Tuesday 17th and Sunday 22nd is Lover Boy :what . I did not choose the bands I chose the ceremonies to watch (Short-track Speed Skating etc.)Apolo Ohno baby!!!!

I am disappointed that upon review of the bands that The Hip is not included at all.

As a huge fan of the Hip I hoped that having the Olympics in Canada was a great event for them to be part of. :thumb:

I am gonna have a super awesome great time, but, seeing The Hip too would be like heaven..just sayin'

Anyone else gonna be there from the forum?

Didn't The Hip play a gig in Salt Lake City? A private one for the gold-medal winning female hockey team?

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that they will play during the Olympics at some point.

Nothing announced but maybe Opening Ceremonies?

There are rumors floating around about something, somewhere, but I haven't seen anything reliable (people are chattering about it on facebook, for example). I hope if they do play, it's something I'll be able to get to.

Don't be getting me excited now...
I just happen to be in Vancouver for the first week of the Olympics and nothing would get me cheering for Canada more than an old fashioned winter Hip show.

I'm already pretty satisfied with the amount of FREE concerts being played around town so I won't be too disappointed when this doesn't happen.
