Here's my messed up lyrics of NOIS:
We're blue, on a street, blue-sinking bleed under skies a smokey-blue green
I can't forsee, a dixie did she, so we danced the sidewalk clean
My memory is muddy what's this river that I'm in
New Orleans Is Sinking and I don't wanna swim
And I told, "What's wrong? What's going on?"
And try to set him up for a deal
He said "I know this sound, shut your big mouth! You gotta do what you feel is real"
And then I know the rest of them hahaha.
REAL LYRICS: Bourbon blues on the street loose and complete
Under skies all smoky blue-green
I can Forksake the dixie dead shake
So we dance the sidewalk clean
My memory is muddy what's this river I'm in
New Orleans is sinking and I don't want to swim
Colonel Tom What's wrong? What's Going On
You can't tie yourself up for a deal
He said" Hey North you're south shut you big mouth
You gotta do what you feel is real."
Ain't got no picture postcards ain't go no souvenirs
My baby she don't know me when I'm thinking about those years
Pale as a light bulb hanging on a wire
Sucking up to someone just stoke the fire
Picking out the highlights of the scenery
Saw a little cloud looked a little like me
I had my hands in the river
My feet back up on the banks
Looked up to the Lord above and said hey man thanks
Sometimes I fell so good I gotta scream
She says Gordie baby I know exactly what you mean
She said, she said I swear to God she said
My memory is muddy what's this river I'm in
New Orleans is sinking and I don't want to swim

It is funny to hear the album and live versions too and hear the differences..
In Poets after
"When the birds can be heard above the reckonin' carts doing some final accounting "
Gord always sings "bring out your dead"
After a show I was waiting for Gord to sign an autograph when I heard a fellow fan ask Gord to sign "bring out your dad". Gord corrected the lyric and the fan was a bit embarrassed I am sure.

When Up To Here came out I always thought "When the weight comes down" was actually "When the rain comes down". I thought this for quite a few years until I actually sat down and read the lyrics. I suppose I could have also read the name of the song on the tape case, but that never seemed to occur to me.

For quite a while after "Up to Here" came out I thought he sang "When you're blowing my dough"!

For the longest time, until they posted the lyrics online, in Depression Suite, I thought the line was something like
"it's minus 11, in sagmakettow" and I began looking at a map of canada trying to find this sagmakettow, thinking it was another obtuse canadian geography reference.
