We have a winner! And damn, with the exact weight.
Congrats Chris! It will be a fun ride.
The freakiest/scariest part for me was getting home from the hospital, just the three of us, and all there was, was silence. As I realized "Holy Joysus, there are no more nurses or instructions - I am in charge. This kid is so screwed"
"We're forced to bed, but we're free to dream"

Congrats, Chris. Hold that baby as much as you can in the next few months.
And, as my grandmother said the day she met my firstborn, "Now you just need to give him a little brother or sister." :what

Ah, yes ... you walk those hospital corridors, in the weight of their expectant hush, where everyone is an outsider, and you haven't slept properly and your head feels as if it isn't properly connected to your body, and you're exhausted but strangely, you don't feel tired, with all this rush of strange, alien emotions passing through you....
Let me help: those strange, alien emotions will soon resolve into babbling, drooling terror, not only because you've searched the afterbirth and found no signs of the user manual, which was not enclosed, nor even the number of the technical support hotline, but also because you've just realized that sleep deprivation is now the rock-bottom constant of your existence. Sleep now, or forever hold your peace.
Anyway,
1 - it is best not to mention this to the wife, who is likely to feel that you have no right to be exhausted,
2 - sleep is overrated,
3 - the next few months will actually be one of the best and happiest times of your life, unless you ignore the warning in (1) above, in which case your memories of them will be obscured by a miasma of pain,
4 - as noted above, hold the kid now as much as possible; before you know it, he will grow up and decide that you're an idiot.
He's a really cute baby, btw. Normally, they look like half-asphyxiated jellybeans, but he looks perfect.

Thanks everyone! I'll do my best to take the advice as offered.
And later this week I'll sort out the winner and prize.
