'Song Of The Day' Thread

OMG I would give up my entire cd collection for a copy of that entire show (with that kind of quality). Wow, what a cool set list...

This pick certainly makes my last day of classes that much sweeter. Everything is falling into place and it has been a long time running! [/end cheesefest]

Actually one of many Michigan area (HIP) shows I've been to. The thing I remeber best about that show was the sound.... Sometimes when I've seen the Hip the sound has been anywhere from muddy and not loud enough to A+.....The Cobo show in 2000 was absolutely A+++ and loud as hell. Fayes drums nearly shook the entire building foundation!

And this concert they played the single best version of Sharks in existence.

Wow! I never knew that Gord was such a folk singer!!!

"Stand up boys, let the bosses know, turn your buckets over, turn your laterns low, there's fire in our hearts, and fire in our souls, but there ain't gonna be a Fire In The Hole!"

Great track today MAv. Can we begin the forensics and figure out where it's from?

My Goodness!
That was fantastic!
Love the accent in the opening lyrics! Gord cracks me up sometimes!

Fire in the Hole
(Mason Daring & John Sales)

You can tell 'em in the country, tell 'em in the town
The miners down in Mingo laid their shovels down.
We won't pull another pillow, load another ton,
Or lift another finger till the union we have won.

cho: Stand up boys, let the bosses know!
Turn your buckets over, turn your lanterns low;
There's fire in our hearts and fire in our soul
But there ain't gonna be no fire in the hole!

Well, Daddy died a miner, grandpa he did too,
I'll bet this coal will kill me 'for my workin' days are through;
In a hole that's dark and dirty, an early grave confined
I plan to make a union for the ones I leave behind.

(Written for the movie Matewan; Recorded on soundtrack album from Daring Records)

Here is the information I know about this track:

Fire In The Hole
Unknown
Lastshow 93

The lastshow part is a bit of a red herring, I believe. As the last show I have on file for that year doesn't have this song in the set list.

Using the "Song Stats" feature and the "Setlist Archive" from the Base, I couldn't even find FITH being played in 1993... Confusedcratch:

*EDIT: Oh I see why...a lot of the setlists from '93 are incomplete. Well, I guess that ends my research...

Could it be the last show of the '93 Another Roadside Attraction tour? Gord did some similar folky-rants at the Markham shows...

I'm @Work so i can't hear it,but does this version sound similar to the 1 on the 7-1-95 High Sierra boot?

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought,compromised,detoured,lured away,turned back,diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice,hesitate in the presence of adversity,negotiate at the table of the enemy,ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!
