What he said. I still think the production on Country Day detracts from the song. Looking forward to hearing it live though.

On my way to work this morning the sun was shinning while I listened to side two beginning at Queen of the Furrows through Country Day. While I was frozen in my tracks waiting for traffic I found it very interesting interpretting the words for Country Day. At first when I heard the song I imaginged the words were speaking of a country setting.
After another listen I think it's clear the words describe a country meaning a country like Canada. (or some other Country)
I'll leave my interpretation for another time but this one strikes a chord.

I've been thinking about this a little more and like many other songs on WATS Country Day is about love and relationships. But listening to the last few verses of CD I think Gord is hinting at another theme. Anyone else read into this?

Wow... I hafta say this one is really striking me. (Coming to this thread a bit late since I finally just got my copy.)
Just wanted to throw this out there -- Call me crazy, but if you squint your eyes, strip down the production a little and focus on the guitars and vocal melody, doesn't this sound like it would fit right in on Up To Here? Kinda along the lines of Another Midnight? Maybe? I dunno but the more I listen the more I hear shades of UTH-style songwriting on this one.
Or maybe its just me!

It's interesting to see this thread, because I listened to the album on my headphones at work today and this song really got me. This line in particular I found particularly moving, "So God keep our land, cause we certainly can't." Gord sings it with such passion and intensity--it really grabbed me.

Yeah I'm not sure where this line fits in with the rest of the tune. Where do you think he is going with this?
