One thing though - after the checkout it redirects me to this page:

I have to say, I don't mind a banner and some text ads by google. It provides the site with some cash (maybe not much?) and it doesn't take away from my enjoyment at all.

Ya I'll second that; but, I think I read in a thread not to long ago by Chris, concerning the tracker, that the adds make almost no money, something like 1.40 over a bagillion clicks (not really but it wasn't much). I'd gladly donate but if Chris is gonna take this on will that mean donations are unnecessary or that Chris is the one to send the money to. Man Chris you're gonna be the ticketmaster of hip fan sites. If I knew how to use photoshop I'd post a pic with your face over the monopoly man's.

I certainly don't mind hitting Lance with a few dollars here and there for any asociated costs. For that matter, I don't mind hitting Lance with some dollars just for his efforts in keeping this place running smoothly -- he deserves something for his stewardship from foolz like me who visit/post here almost daily.

Though it does seem to make much better sense to take advantage of free hosting as offered by Chris.....

The ads on my sites made money - enough to cover the cost of hosting. But for the minimal revenue they brought in, it wasn't worth the potential hassle with Revenue Canada as I have to declare it as income. I ran a fundraiser when launched the tracker because there was actual hardware being purchased (cabling, power supplies, hard drives, etc) and with thanks to markslog we didn't have to buy the actual server as he donated it!

I don't need any donations... at this point. It's only if the server dies that we'll need to solicit donations.

Why would I give up my site? I think you miss read the post. I am asking for donations to supplement my hosting bill. If I was looking for a free host I would ask... I have been running this site since 2002. Why not ask for some help? I don't have time for shirts or ads.

I am glad you can supplement your site with google ads, that is great but I am going to go about it a different way.
