I'm sure this has been discussed before. But with the new album coming out, I wonder have the boys given anymore consideration to doing any late night shows (letterman, leno ect...) to promote their album. I have always wondered why they haven't don't any, with the exception to SNL of course.

Ya true, I dont think Jay Leno and them would be too interested in them though. And I cant really see them on a talk show hahaha

SNL is different I think because they have all the big names, to new break through Indie Bands. But Id love to see them back on SNL

They are promoting their album on Monday are they not? George S from CBC has the hottest talk show going right now...at least in Canada. The eastern snub is bullshit mind you.
Why does this stupid topic keep coming up about them in the states. Who gives a fuck about Letterman & Leno...did you hear U2 on Letterman a few weeks back. Fuck my cat makes better noise at about 5am every morning.
Accept what they are people...a Canadian band...made for Canadians.
Did you ever think that maybe the Hip would have been ruined if they made it in the states? Would 50 Mission Cap...and Wheat Kings...and countless other great tunes ever have made it if they counted on the U.S. market every time they wrote an album.
Let the states have Metalica and Motley Crew and Guns & Roses, & all the other racket they promote. They don't have our taste, nor our sensibility. Look at the fuckin mess their in. Canada ain't so bad kids.

I was surprised last tour that The Hip did not perform on Carson Daly being that Mark Vreeken is now working there.
And if small bands like Sam Roberts/Matt Nathanson can get booked on Letterman and Leno, why not The Hip.

You ought to be a little more appreciative of the musical 'tastes' and 'sensibilities' of your southern neighbor.

What would the Canadian rock scene look like if it weren't for jazz and blues alone, not to mention all the descendant styles?

Are you suggesting that American Jazz & Blues is superior to our version of Jazz & Blues? Or did you mean to say that our musical tastes would never have been born if it weren't for the influences from the south?
There is plenty of classic American music that will continue to live on.....but it isnt't recent. Sorry, but, Canada has simply put out a better product over the last twenty years without a doubt. Fuck there is probably better polka music out there in comparison to recent American bands.

Remember tht the Hip were probably only on SNL because of Dan's influence on the show. He said he would host if He gets to choose the band that played.... at least that is how I see it happening.

Do people still watch SNL? I'd rather see the boys on Cable Ten personally.

I think it's pretty narrow-minded to think that the Hip are an insular Canadian band. They might not always openly pander to the mainstream US market, but they are smart enough to know where they fit in to the musical lineage. They certainly have American influences, past and present. I remember reading an article around the time WC came out that Gord was a fan of The Killers, and I think I felt some of that influence in WC and now in WATS (though that could just be the Bob Rock polish). While they know their key fan base is in Canada, I think they set out to make great records, not great "Canadian" records. References to hockey and rural Ontario towns aren't thrown in there for our benefit any more than Springsteen's endless Jersey references are thrown in for citizens of the Garden State...they just write what they know, and it's pretty universal.

With that said, while I doubt they'll hit the American talk show circuit, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing it happen.

SNL is so mind numbingly shitty nowadays I'd be pissed if the boys preformed on it. If Conan was still rocking on air and The Hip played I'd be estatic.

How about radio shows like "The Vinyl Cafe"(CAN) or "All Things Considered"(US). What about that Canadian radio show, I forget the name, where some dude travels around Canada and puts on live show with local and regional musicians. That would be perfect for The Hip. There are also lots of other television programs about music like Jools Holland(UK) and "In Session"(US).

I think you mean "All Songs Considered" which is a music programme on NPR. The Hip's show on World Cafe in April 2007 was featured on All Songs Considered:
