We Are The Same Discussion

daylight Wrote:Morning Moon sounds really nice. Reminds me a little of Neil Young for some reason (maybe the Moon-y-ness).

Backing vocals are a nice touch. Could stand a little less repetition at the end but otherwise it's great!
I really love it...it's a sound I always wished the Hip would pick up...

Morning Moon: Upon a few listens, I must say, this song is beautiful -- it is definitely a Hip tune, but unlike anything I've heard before. It sounds fresh, and polished... yet also a return to some classics -- a fusion of Bobcaygeon and Boots Or Hearts.
The backing vocals are suttle, and for some reason, remind me of recent backing vocals on the Barenaked Ladies Are Me / Are Men project -- which to me is an extremely good thing.

Country influenced Hip has been hinted at in past albums, and clearly Road Apples and Up To Here draw from heavy country influence. But this is something completely different.
And so far, it seems to work.

Also.

Violins.

'Nuff said.

It's a damn shame most people will probably be sitting down when this song is played at concerts. A remarkable first listen. It is actually exactly what I wanted this band to sound like coming out of the gate on this album. Where In View was a poppy crossover hit, this is at the other end, but can still cross over just as far.

What a great way to start the day.

Cheers,

Pat

After a couple of listens, Morning Moon, for me, has a real Blue Rodeo/Jim Cuddy influence. It's a great lead track!
Wondering if it is the first single or just a "pre-release" track for all us wonderful technofiles?

Great couple of days! Springsteen and DMB announce they are playing on the same line up in London in June and I got tickets... and the The Hip go and do the big album announcement Big Grin

Morning Moon is really great. Liking it a lot. Crisp, clean, and refreshing. Sounds like the lads have hit the ground runningon this one and I can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks.

(Wonder if we'll hear the rest of the album session tracks at some point - bonus material?)

OH my Tragically Hip it's like they new I was having a shit morning and they sent me the email right when I needed it. Love MM!!

I am praying for album release shows set up similar to WC, with shows in a Gen Admission venue!!!

Those of us that want to show up early and get front and centre can do just that! I don't want to be 30 rows back Sad

Ah, what a nice morning.

Woke up dreading the cubicle, little did I know I'd have a song to listen to 100 times today. It must be spring soon, the hip are here, and we are all the same.

It's good to be back.

54 more days to go.
Seems sooner if you say April 7

My shot at the lyrics of Morning Moon

The reactors down
I guess for labour day, today
Its the first day I ain't seen gray (plumes of?) steam from across the lake
From across the lake

Hey that’s a morning moon, yeah

Im not making stain
You said Someones pain
When somethings too cheap
Somebodys paying something
You said someones paying something

And there a morning moon, yeah
Say those little things that don’t make anyone feel better, yeah

It didn’t take too much to upset her
Nothing that could clear a room
Just say one little thing that could make me feel better
Under this morning moon, yeah

(Their sons are like bulbs)?
In the moon as a mirror
There are times when you can see both the bulb and the mirror
See the bulb in a mirror
And that’s a Morning moon, yeah
Say those little things that don’t make anyone feel better, yeah

It doesn’t take too much to upset her
Nothing that could clear a room
Just saying one little thing
Trying to make you feel better

Under this morning moon, yeah
Under this morning moon, yeah
(Trying to make you feel better
Nothing too far from the truth) Repeat
